Nintendo Fun Club - I'll always remember that because of Doc Louis' between-round advice - talk about product placement!

My day in the NP limelight that I mentioned earlier, from issue 96:

I may have been mistaken on Mario Kart 64 - I remember sending in a time but it may not have been fast enough.

These used to circulate the bus on my way home from school for a couple of years. I never had a subscription myself, so the rarity of being able to get my hands on an issue only added to the folklore. I specifically recall reading an issue that outlined each level of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project. I also recall an issue outlining the history of every single Street Fighter character (I copied their stories and traced their pictures).

Anyhow, when I finally earned my family's blessings in subscribing to a gaming magazine (around 1993 or 1994), I had a Sega by then, so I opted for the lesser known Game Player magazine. I still remember the preview for NBA Showdown '94, offering photo evidence of its signature styles (a blonde haired Dennis Rodman and a Chris Mullin crew cut).

I sent in some artwork once and it got published. It was a crudely drawn picture of Team Rocket holding a stick of dynamite next to a tied up Pikachu with the caption reading, "Whatchu gonna' do, Pika?"

That's awesome. Takes me back to the days of trying to catch that half hour video game show on Saturday mornings so I can learn the secrets and codes to my favorite games, like getting to negative world in Mario.
