Re: Pillars of Eternity
Just an example of how much customization there is -
The wizard I happen to be traveling with just got his first level up, and in his class unlocks I'm presented with TWENTY-FOUR different spells to possibly learn in addition to the 4 he already has, and I can choose two for that level up. Each one's effect is clearly spelled out when you highlight it, and they range from direct damage (several different damage types) to buffs to debuffs, to everything else you can think of. All relatively minor effects, since these are just level 1 and 2 spells.
You might spend as much time fine-tuning your characters as you do actually fighting with them.Joshua:

Re: Pillars of Eternity
I started out as a Ranger, picked Lion as my animal companion.
Not sure if I want to continue with my Ranger or test out another class.Comment

Re: Pillars of Eternity
Was watching the gameplay video from PaxEast while it was downloading last night and was having total flashbacks to playing IWDII at 2:00 in the morning.
Just to get back in the feel of it I started an elf ranger-hunter with a wolf pet. Just played up to getting into the cave after the storm. Lovin it so far with all the customization of your built character.
SpoilerStopped in the cave to rest my injured companion and woke up to the same thing, with having the female fighter had left. Decided to call it a night to get back into it for most likely a Friday all-nighter.Make #FranchiseNation great again!
This thing called Twitter I do sometimes
What's your thoughts? It's a game.

Re: Pillars of Eternity
Original Sin had some great turn based combat and interactivity with the world/objects though (like Ultima 7)....so I wouldn't say Pillars beats in all (major) aspects.Comment

Re: Pillars of Eternity
Yeah 2 different gameplay experiences. And for the record I prefer the Turn based in Original Sin.Joshua:

Re: Pillars of Eternity
I can see myself putting tons of hours into this game. I find this type of game much more engrossing and rewarding than console rpgs. In my limited time playing, Pillars seems to be stable with solid visuals. I hope younger gamers will give it a try. Those of us who played Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and the earlier Neverwinter games will have a great time with Pillars.Comment

Re: Pillars of Eternity
Combat in pillars seems to move a little faster than divinity. I have set the game to pause at most major events so it replicates divinity somewhat.Comment

Re: Pillars of Eternity
I'm holding off for now. With MLB coming and weather starting to get nice I'll have little time to play right now. I want it pretty badly but no need right now.Joshua:

Re: Pillars of Eternity
I wondered why I wasn't detecting any traps, turns out you have to be in stealth mode (scout mode) to see any hidden traps or hidden caches.
If I had one complaint about the game, it's how slow the walking is, even scrolling across the map is sluggish.Comment

Re: Pillars of Eternity
Press D (by default) to put the game in a faster speed. This one I actually found by accident while trying to scroll the screen. Scouting mode actually moves at a decent pace that way. There's also a half-speed toggle by pressing S.Comment
