Well, there are game systems for people who only want that, and a PSX for people who want everything in one unit. Simply put, if you dont want "all that stuff" buy a PS2. Its not like you are being forced to buy the PSX if you want to play PS2 games. I dont see whats wrong with producing something for both crowds.

I already have an xbox but I'm talking about the next-gen consoles. It seems like they are trying to put all of this stuff in there when I might not want that or I might already have that stuff. If they made seperate versions of the new consoles with one having all the extra stuff in it and the other having just the game console itself then i wouldn't care.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I heard that the $700 PSX system is a PS2 system, with a hard-drive, on-board ethernet, dvd playback, a dvd-burner, and TiVo capabilities.

Although that price tag sounds expensive, it's actually on the cheaper side of things. If you have ever looked into a TiVo, you would know that that alone is an expensive piece of hardware. I think it goes for around 3 or 4 hundred dollars. If you get the lifetime subscription for that, than it is well into the $700 area already. On top of that you get a DVD burner which is still a bit costly now a days, at least $300 for the cheapest unit. A PS2 is still around $150, and the ethernet adapter is about $70. And the DVD remote goes for, what? $15.

So, the grand total for all this functionality $1,235 if you want to buy everything seperately. Now that's not worth the money or the space. Instead, you get one box with all this functionality, in one pretty package.

yeah, one slip up and you've broken your gaming system, your dvd burner, your dvd player, and your TiVo........that, my friends, is a hellova slip up!!!!!

No, no... that isnt the PS3 pictured above that is $700 with all of the other features. That is a PSX, which is a PS2 with added features. That isnt a next-gen console. Its just an alternative for people who want an all in one entertainment unit. If you dont want the extra features, just buy a PS2, its the same thing. Its not a PS3.

No, no... that isnt the PS3 pictured above that is $700 with all of the other features. That is a PSX, which is a PS2 with added features. That isnt a next-gen console. Its just an alternative for people who want an all in one entertainment unit. If you dont want the extra features, just buy a PS2, its the same thing. Its not a PS3.

I know what it is but I've heard of the next-gen consoles having these same features.

Its not like you are being forced to buy the PSX if you want to play PS2 games. I dont see whats wrong with producing something for both crowds.

The PSX is being made for a different audience than a regular console, but the PS3 wont be. Im sure it will be marketed as a console, and those prices wont fly in the regular console world.
