Mass Effect series plus all the DLC for the series = Probably the best story line of this generation of gaming.

If anybody with a Xbox 360 or a PS3 have not played any of the Mass Effect series, I don't know what you been doing with your life. It's the best series of this generation of consoles, and it's not even close.

PS3? Hmmmm... Guess you need to go out and grab a 360

This is obviously going to be very opinion based and vary from poster to poster... half the games listed bore me to tears (I'm looking at you Mass Effect and Metal Gear).

My top three choices right now would be:

1. Uncharted series
2. Red Dead Redemption
3. Max Payne 3

Honorable mention goes to Sleeping Dogs. Picked that up release day and it was fantastics.

Agreed. OP I'm just like you, all I play is sports games and I've gotten bored and tried expanding my range. ME was the first true storymode type game I've played. I bought ME about a week before ME2 just to make sure I was up to speed as far as the campaign, the game sucks you in. I love being in the ME world, I've bought all the DLC, and usually put about 30+ hours in one playthrough, and I usually do 2 playthroughs. After beating 3, I thought I was finished, but I've been drawn back to start again with 1 and go through the entire thing, doing absolutely everything. Some people find it boring, some people enjoy it. To each his own, I'm one of those who REALLY enjoys Mass Effect as it has become one of my favorite games ever.

Give Dragon Age: Origins a chance. The only thing that wasn't fantastic about it was the clunky combat system. Everything is top notch.
Neverwinter Nights (the first, not the second one) was an absolute blast to play. Gameplay is similar to Guild Wars 2 except it's single player. Fantastic character development and the story beats most novels. The best thing about the game thou was Atari gave the gaming community their building set, so their was literally thousands of player-made adventure all ranging from one hour to dozens of hours. That game kept my attention throughout my entire 15 month overseas deployment. Bad thing, is that I don't believe it can run on current Windows, so if you can find it and have a laptop that is 6 or so years old it was well worth it.

Someone also mentioned Final Fantasy 3 for the SNES. Greatest game ever, greatest story ever, greatest characters ever.

Mass Effect is a good suggestion. I have a friend who isn't even a huge gamer any more. He asked me to suggest a game and I suggested the Mass Effect Series. It's been three weeks and he's all ready finished 1&2 and went and purchased 3.

Uncharted is solid. I'm not a big fan of the series, like most PS3 guys are. It's a beautiful series with a great story, but the gun play leaves something to be desired.

If you're into open world, Red Dead Redemption is a must play

Final Fantasy 7 can be purchased through PSN for $10 and it's great. It's an older game and you have to overlook the graphics, but it's a timeless classic..

There are A LOT of great games out there. It may be easier for some if you listed some more popular games that you have played.

I'm surprised will all the Uncharted Story love. I hated Drake and thought the story was mediocre at best. The game was fun though.

I agree with some of the suggestions made. The Mass Effect series was probably the best of this generation. As said before, Final Fantasy 6 (or 3 for the SNES) is also excellent. As far as the metal gear series goes, I'd recommend MGS3 (snake eater) out of all of them. Besides that, bakan723 had a good list. I'd follow that.

You can always download it from the PSN Store...pretty sure it's there? Along with Suikoden and Wild Arms. Those are all outstanding classics.

If you WERE to get a 360...must play Alan Wake.
