Only started playing the mod 3 weeks ago, and it is probably the best thing I have ever played. Period. And for a mod... That's saying something.
For those of you unaware, Day Z is a mod (Online) for the combat simulator ARMA II, takes places in a fictional post-soviet state called Chernarus which has been hit by a zombie infection. The map is 225km squared, with various small towns, cities, airfields, and many large fields and forests.
You are a survivor, spawned in one of the many various locations, usually next to the coast. The aim? Survive by any means. You must keep your drink and food levels up, as well as your blood levels (If shoot/hit), and tempurature.
To do this, you loot anything you can. The zombies sense you by hearing and sight, and will attack you if they notice you (Usually refered to as an aggro zombie). Zombies are actually easily dealt with once you have a weapon, it's the players you should be worried about. Bearing every player you see is a real online player, nothing is scripted. So instincts come into play a lot. Some are friendly and will help, some will shoot on sight, some will try and hold you up, take your gear, etc...
The game is also in real time. So if it's 10 in the morning or 10 at night, it will be on the server (Depending on what time zone it's set to). At night, it's pretty much pitch black, so NV's are vitale.
You can also find vehicles and helicopters, which when spawned, need to repaired to various extents.
As I mentioned, I've only been playing 3 weeks, and before I was pretty much 95% console gamer. You wouldn't think I even played console now. You learn very quickly and if your able to team up, everything becomes easier.
I currently roll in a team of 6, and we haven't died for a few days, so we have pretty high end gear now. AS.50's, M107's (50. caliber snipers), M4's, and other good gear. Engagements can last 10 minutes.. Or a whole hour. Last night we we're shot by a sniper who missed, and we fell back down the hill to re-group. Took us 20 minutes to flank him from various directions, and in the end.. he wasn't there. But it really does get your heart going.
Check the website out..
If anyone plays PC or likes the sound of this I would get it for sure. The mod is free, the requirments are on the site (You need the original ARMA II).
Check out FRANKIEonPCin1080 on YouTube if you want to see some really good gameplay of Day Z, his one of the best at the game.
