It's because of the online "element" that I haven't played after trying it.
    WAY too much cheating/hacking IMO.

OK thanks. That is what I was afraid of. I have heard griefers and hackers are running wild online with this.

True....it would be more of an I Am Legend(the Last Man on Earth for those who don't know the original version of the film)...

They don't have bots to replicate people...do they?
        That would be ideal.

Not that I know of, no. But I was just saying that because he asked if you could play by yourself.

Technically you can, but it won't be quite the same game since you're taking out a huge part of what makes DayZ tense.

EDIT: Actually, look into that Project Zomboid game. I just posted a thread about it yesterday. It's pretty neat and more of a DayZ style of zombie game. I'm interested to know what some of you guys think about it.

The hacking problem is at large, but personally, I've only had a few occassions of hacking in my time and it has been dealt with almost instantly and effectivly.

Find yourself a good private hive and most hackers are dealt with before they can even do anything. Even if they do manage to commit a hack (e.g. Teleporting, which is the most common), the hackers are banned instantly and the server can be rolled back to about 10-30 minutes before the incident.

I've managed to find a few good servers were admins are always active, and if not found they will deal with hackers as soon as they are reported.

Is it annoying? Yes, but your best bet is to join hives. Whitelisted servers are the best if you can get your name down on one.

But at this point, if you haven't got ARMA II, or haven't downloaded the mod, I'd just wait till the standalone is out. Unless you need the pratice.

I would love this...Zombies, bots to simulate people, the ability to save and come back. Probably add on some end goal (searching for something, etc) to give you more motivation to move around...

I'll be checking out the standalone eventually, once we know more about it (and how it differs from current DayZ), but people can be annoying online and when you lose hours of play to a cheater it sucks.

DayZ is great, and if you watch youtube videos, it looks like it'd be the most fun in the world. It can be, that's for sure. I love it, but havent played it in some time, mainly because it's highly glitchy for many people(myself included).

I had a really bad strobing effect that plagued a lot of people mostly with ATI cards. I managed to mostly get rid of it, but other glitches made it too frustrating at times for me.

That's just my opinion, but I do in fact really like the game, and plan on getting the standalone.
