Re: Xbox 2 to ditch standard disc format?
Interesting, with piracy being such a huge thing over the last few yrs I wouldn't be surprised if every form of media tries some kind of anti-piracy mechanism. I don't know how affective it could be for DVDs (I know that Disney tried the self expiring DVDs for a while and caught flack for that) but it should be rather easy to implement for videogames.
Since Nintendo has been highly successful at it I don't see why Microsoft and Sony WOULDN'T try something like that.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

The thing is though, is whatever they happen to create the discs' with, someone, somewhere will find out how and what format and they use and copy that.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

OK well has anybody successfully pirated the GCN discs yet? The article said that its been very successful. I know this is skirting around with the TOS here but i'm actually interested. (and no I don't have a GCN)Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Well, I figured someone would mention the GC. IMO, its probably because the GC is'nt in high demand but thats stupid logic. But the main reason why someone will eventually copy whatever format they will use is because if the PS3, XBOX 2 and GC were to all have a different format, then they're would be no pirating. They dont want that. The piraters that is. You think piraters would actually sit back and let those disc slide? Hell no. They will find some way to pirate. And if that has to do with leaks in the companys or whatever, they'll eventually figure it out.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment
