Were you disappointed by Diablo 3? Did you want a step forward in the genre? Did Torchlight 2 grab you, but not quite hold you the way you have hoped?

Enter Path of Exile.

The game deviates from your normal hack'n'slash though. I don't even know where to start to describe the differences.

There's no money in game, there's gems and scrolls. Gems grant you the skills you will use, amongst other things.

Skill points gained when leveling up are used on a passive branching skill tree, almost like Final Fantasy X had.

Skills are interchangable, with whatever gem you have in your equipment giving you that skill. Links between the gems in equipment grant those skills the bonuses given by the linked gems.

its a fun game, I havent played it since they updated, does it still have that huge-normous skill tree?

Yeah, its the passive skill tree, which is where all the points go when you level. Active skills are in the crystals still.

Yup, such a blast. Difficult, but not too difficult.

Open beta is in december.

Interesting, hopefully they do look into running it on mac in the future as i'm just too lazy to do any of the work arounds to run it.

Yep, this game is really good, found out about it a week ago and have been playing since.

Open beta started last week. Over the weekend the game crashed when it reached over 60,000 users. A lot of good reports about this calling it a mix between Diablo II and Titan Quest with a massive skill tree to customize. I'm just about to get started. Anyone else playing? Any tips/impressions?

I'm playing marauder (Axe/shield) right now. Only tip is don't get too lost in the skill tree, have a plan.

Will keep that in mind. Read that if you die with a hardcore character it isn't wiped but transferred to normal status. A very nice touch.

Levelled my Templar to 12 yesterday while I was working from home. Who am I kidding I wasn't working I was playing this awesome game. Sporting a wand and energy shield at the moment.

Nice. What type of build are you going with?

I have a shadow that's cold-casting (frozen pulse / ice spear as 2 main skills) with a heavy focus on crit. Hit 46 now, I had previously played a Marauder that I stopped at 30 (gonna use the Shadow to farm stuff.)
