I figured I go opposite of the doom and gloom that keep popping up in the forums and post something that may be helpful to those new guardians about to set foot onto the tower and beyond.

Keep in mind that all the info below is what I have collected with all my playing time and most/some of it is opinionated. Everyone has their favorite class/etc and this is only for a guide line to learn more about each class. Feel free to add info to the guide but please do not insult me or others for their oppinions. There will be spwlling mistakes and such and I appologise before hand. Thank you.

Keep in mind you can make any of these classes into high armored tanks or fast moving crack heads depending on the attributes you choose in skill tree.

    Titan:
They are more the in you face bruisers of the 3. Their melee is the strongest out of the 3. They have 2 subclasses, Defender and Striker.

-Striker (Arc Damage): It's more of a personal subclass. Your super ground pounds and basically kills anything around you. It can be augmented with a dot, shockwave or bigger range. It's melee can be increasingly devastating as by default does bonus damage. It can also instantly reset, do aoe (area of effect) or reduce the cool down of the super. The grenades can be flashbangs, pulse grenade or lightning grenades. The passives can be increased distance of super, increase duration of you dot grenade and super or kills with melee 0rovide health regen. The other 3 can be your harder to kill while using the super, shoulder charge or gain a shield while sprinting.

-Defender (Void Damage): It's main purpose is support. It's super drops a shield that can increase defense, shields or damage boost. It's default melee gives you a shield when you kill with it, it can also get increased reload speed, creating orbs of light (helps team mates get super faster) or continuous overshield regen. It's passives can decrease recharge of super, make orbs of light with heavy kills and increase the effect of abilities. It's other 3 passives can increase length of super, increase strength of shield from melee or as the super takes damage it can produce orbs of light. It's grenades can magnet grenades that explode twice, spike grenades that provide dot (damage over time) damage and suppressor which prevents enemies for using abilities.

    Hunter:
They seem to do more sniper damage than the other classes and are made out to be the assassins/rouges of the game. They have 2 subclasses, Gunslinger and Bladedancer.

-Gunslinger (Solar Damage): Imo it's the main damage dealer in high lvl pvm (player vs moster) due to its range. It's super summons a golden gun that shoots 3 shots of major damage. It can have increased accuracy, enemies killed explode or decrease recharge time. The class is a little different as he can have a grenade and throwing knife instead of a increased melee. The grenade can be incendiary, swarm which releases tracking drones to hit enemies or trip mines. The knife can increase the duration of golden gun if you get a kill with it active, fire or every precision kill with knife grants you instant recharge on knife. It's passives can increase recharge of knife with ammo pick ups, allow golden gun to penetrate to damage multiple enemies or increase stability with ever precision kill up to 3 times. The other 3 can increase reload with precision kills, increase range of super and give a extra throwing knife.

-Bladedancer (Arc Damage): Hands down the best and easiest super to use in everything. Reason it's really doesn't work to well in high lvl stuff is because the super relies on getting close to stiff that can normally 1 shot you. It does help clean up mobs when surrounded though. The super makes you go insane with a blade that allows you to run around slicing anything in your way. It can have a powerful aoe move, a wave cast in front of you or invisibility. The grenade can be a sticky, skip which breaks into multiple seeking explosives or arc bolt which has a chain lightning effect. The melee can do more damage from behind, invisibility or reduce cool down of super. The passives are increase sprint speed.and slide length, weapons are ready immediately or increase duration of invisibility. Other 3 are killing enemies with super extends super, gain invisibility when crouch for a time and kills with super and melee increase health.

    Warlock:
The have the most range on their melee attack. They are the mystical class in the game. Their 2 sub classes are Voidwalker and Sinsinger.

-Voidwalker (Void Damage): This class is chosen a lot for its super. The super lobs a giant purple ball that disenigrates everything around the impact radious. It can even hit through thin walls. It can create a dot effect where it hits, split into 3 smaller supers or can trace farther and faster. The grenades can be a vortex dot, a explosive one that splits up or on that splits up and tracks enemies. The melee reduces your grenades recharge, it can also increase movement speed and weapon reload, restore health or reduce cool down of super. The first passives can increase the size of explosions, make super track targets, or increase your melee effect. The other 3 are increased the range of you seeking grenades and increase duration of dot grenade and super, enemies killed by abilities explode or enemies killed by super or grenade triggers melee effect.

-Sunsinger (Solar damage): It's mainly used as a tanky/support class since you can take more damage with the super. It's super turns you into a solar infused being that increases your melee and grenade effectiveness. It can get reduces cool down of allies abilities, reduce damage taken or resurrect yourself after dieing if super is charged. It's melee ignites enemies doing solar dot damage. It can get a shield, knockback or melee kills make enemy explode. The grenades are solar vortex which does dot damage, fire bolt that seeks enemies or fusion that sticks to targets. The first passives are increase duration of super, enemies ignited burn longer and take more damage or killing with melee can produce orbs of light. The other 3 are all grenades ignite ememies, while in air you can aim and hover for a few seconds or gain a additional grenade.

There's a short write up of all the characters and abilities. I hope that helps everyone looking at starting a new character or people just starting out. Happy hunting.

Played the raid last night and it's a cakewalk with the right people that knows how to do things. We pushed the Templar off the platform just like you can with Atheon. Spawned found and looted the hidden chest. We did it again right after for funsies and didn't care we got no rewards.

I got all ascendant material.......... And the Robes of the Hezen Lords! That's what I wanted most. That leaves my gloves as the only non-raid/exotic. Well on my way to 30 if I can only get all the ascendant mats now.

Quick question: I'm a lvl 28 with all legendary and exotic gear, I'm not upgrading my legendary gear with ascendent shards as I will need them for any raid gear. Am I doing it right?

Yes, that's what I do. Upgrade the non raid stuff up to the last tier. Just don't upgrade those last three bubbles on that tier. Save the mats for the good stuff that can get you to 30.

If the Exotic something you going to keep you can upgrade that all the way.

Thanks for all the help guys! I switched to sunsinger last night and will probably just switch to voidwalker when I go to PvP since I have almost all the upgrades on that one.

Stinks I'm stuck in a meeting ALL day today. I'm counting down the hours to go home and play destiny to grind my guy higher.

Look forward to striking and raiding with some of you in the near future

Wish I had known this before last night when Boltman told me about it. I have used up far too many shards leveling up legendary non-raid gear

It depends on who you ask...

My view on it is this, you get so many shards each time you run a raid, + public events, rewards from cryptarch, bounties, etc that you honestly don't need to stockpile them.

I would say at least max out your exotic, and maybe your chest. But since you're already 28 I'd say you're fine as is and can save them for raid armor drops.

But you can end up having ran the raid so many times and not see raid armor to the point where you have 80+ shards.
I have one exotic maxed and my raid arms maxed, my legs only have one shard upgrade and I forget what my chest is at but I'm 29 . I won't spend any more Shards till I see more raid armor. I have 13 right now.

I am of the opinion that mats come so quick, and raid gear does not, that you might as well up to 29 because it makes a BIG difference on hard raid.

And how the RNG treats you. Shards for me are by far the bottle neck in the system. I'm thinking though that once you're geared proper you should theoretically start getting duplicates that you'll break down and get shards from.

For PvE I prefer the sunginger because of the self resurrect super. It's invaluable in raids and other missions where you can often be the player that prevents a wipe.
I mostly use Sunsinger for both. When I play Crucible its mostly control so the grenade spam is great for controlling an area and the self-resurrection is great for wiping out entire squads. I can't tell you how many times I've been jumped by three or more guys at a point, resurrected (in Radiance I might add), and proceeded to grenade spam and shotgun them into oblivion.
