    Re: Day Z

I've been playing the heck out of the Epoch mod of the the Dayz mod of Arma II.

I'll probably hold off on the Dayz standalone for awhile. Too much fun with the mod version to really switch now. Got a good server with good group of guys that have a lot of fun.

Arma 2 mod. I used the Dayz Commander program, makes it really easy to pick a mod of Dayz and play a server

        Re: Day Z

I went into a small town at server reset to try and find supplies to repair my truck only to get shot at by some bandit who managed to miss all 10 shots on me. My engine is at 7% and I need to replace my wheels before its broke down on the side of the road. I'm thinking about leaving the truck somewhere in the middle between my house and the city, then running the rest.

If anyone plays Epoch, don't make the mistake I made and not pick up combination locks. I skipped looting one early and found out how rare they are from zombies. Once I find a combination lock, I can build my locked garage door to feel a bit more secure.

        -------

Bought an offroad truck for 4 gold so now I wont be so paranoid with someone riding off with it or stealing my stuff. I was fine with my other truck until this one guy kept trying to take it while we were at the trade center. Left the old truck at the trade center parking lot and mentioned in chat so someone can start off with it just like I did. I ended up getting some tents also which I can hide under trees, tents let me store items. I really need to find a combination lock so I can finish my garage up. I also want to find a generator as I think we're able to light up the inside of buildings with light bulbs.

I used to think little of Dayz until I came across the Epoch mod, there's a different layer to it with the way interactions at the market, being paranoid about every shot you hear off in the distance while you're making plywood and wall segments. I managed to scavenge some weapons off a few dead guys on the way to Stary but not before I made sure it wasn't a trap.

        --------

And someone hot-wired my truck, stole it. They wont be able to use it after the server reset so I smashed his quad up to the best of my ability when he comes back to get it

          Re: Day Z

I finally finished the first portion of my new base (left my original spot that I thought was good after my truck was stolen). I decided to go with 2 garage doors, an entrance garage door and then one that leads to a covered area.

Going to refuel the vehicle and Jerry cans is never a dull moment as it seems like someone is always trying to get a shot off on you as you're stationary.

My next goal is to find a construction site that has some mortar buckets and cinder blocks so I can add some stronger walls.

Highlight of playing today: got shot at while coming back from the Stary trader. I also found a portable generator and key making kit where I can now make copies of my UAZ's key with some smelted tin from empty tin cans and a fire.

Logged off a bit nervous, atleast one helicopter has been near my area. I haven't been able to check if they're landing or what, but there's been too much activity near me now to feel comfortable leaving stuff unlocked.

Found out by chance that my Mid-2010 Macbook Pro can actually run this game. I knew it could run rust at a lower texture state, and really wanted to play the Standalone. Even though my Graphics card didn't meet the minimum specs it still runs it in bootcamp.

Now I don't have excellent looking textures, but the gameplay is smooth at low quality and that's what I care about.

As fun as this game seems I still don't agree with "buying" an alpha. Yes you still get the game when it is finished and you can play it before hand but the thing is it's not being done for you to play it. Early release is so the developers can gets lots of people to test the game for them.

I'm sure there are dedicated forums for reporting and discussing bugs and things. That is how ER is supposed to be used but more often than not it isn't and it ends up being used as an excuse for the devs to release the game at whatever stage it is in just to get more sales by removing the ER banner.

So in short something that is supposed to aid game development so that games are not released in a broken or unfinished state actually helps them to be launched in an unfinished state.

I see your point but I don't think this Dev Team is motivated that way. They've been constantly releasing updates and talking with the community trying to get things right.

Only time will tell if you're right though.

You're right as well, as this does depend heavily on the developer or publisher if there is one. Now Bohemia can do this right and they might. It seems as though they did a good job with Arma III and it's early release so there is no reason to not expect the same with this game.

Hopefully they do it the right way because this game has lots of potential.

Having all the extra capital for development can't hurt either.

Love this game. Just bought it the other day on Steam. I can't get enough of it, even though I suck at it and can't find food to save my life.

This is a really good read about the injustice simulator.

I may not agree with the buy into unfinished games that is the Early Access system but this game looks like it will be a whole lot of fun when it is finished.

I'll only buy it IF it comes to PS4. Until then I'll just play the ARMA 2 dayz.
