    Re: Skylanders Giants

I have the first one with 30 of the 32 Skylanders released. My son plays it all the time, great little game, but a huge money sink.

The 2nd one wtih 4 giants, and all the new characaters in stores so far as well as the new light core ones are in my attic. My kid has been excited for it for 2 months.

So yes, great game, just expect to spend a lot of money with it.

Thanks for your thoughts. It looks like the figures are fairly expensive. The good thing is that we told family my son was getting this so they can get him some figures for Christmas. Reviews have been good and I'm surprised how well this has taken off. I would of expected something like this from Nintendo with Pokemon.

        Re: Skylanders Giants

I own both games (original and Giants) and have it on the 3DS for both games as well. The 3DS is the only game that's different from the other console versions. Stupidly bought all chars for original game, and all of ones recently released. Well over 1k worth now. Yeah, I'm a marketing persons dream gamer.

The 3DS games are an action platformer, where as the console version games a very easy (think lego easy here) RPG game. I'd suggest the console version for 10 and under and the 3DS for 8 to 13 and under and that's about it. Kids older than 13 are going to think it's stupid, and kids 8 and under are probably going to struggle with the 3DS version due to the time based trial versions of most of the levels.

When you buy the characters, keep in mind you only need 1 character from each type (water, magic, fire, etc) to open each zone. Yes, you can buy all of them as I did for some stupid reason, but you only need one of each in order to open up the zones keyed by a specific type.

If you get a second giant, other than the one from the starter pack (which is nice), I suggest the one that looks like the B as he can move fast, and speed is everything to me, especially for the console versions, as it's needed just to get through the drollness as quickly as possible. I found the console version extraordinarily boring, and unnecessarily slow for no reason at all. Console version seems even slower if you played the 3DS version 1st.

One nice thing is you can use the same characters in both the 3DS version and the console and they maintain their character levels (though not coins, as coins are only important on the console version, not 3DS).
