Watching games instead of playing them?
Does anyone else tend to watch games on Youtube instead of playing them? I'm sure we all prefer to play them rather than watch them, but I'm talking about watching the games that came before the one you're playing. For example, I want to play Assassin's Creed 3 but have never played Assassin's Creed 2 and Revelations, so I'm thinking of watching them instead online. The main reason I'm doing that is because I don't really have as much time as I'd like to play both of the games, and I've really been wanting to play AC3 lately.

Re: Watching games instead of playing them?
I used to watch my roommate and friend play COD because they were so good at it that it was fun watching them own other people. I also got better watching how they played but since I don't play anymore, I'll watch for a bit and be their 2nd pair of eyes while they play.Comment

Re: Watching games instead of playing them?
It's funny this thread was started..
I've actually been doing that a lot. When I see a game that I start to get interest in, I sometimes watch the videos and it's saved me more times than not. Guess I just need some external stimulant to show that "yep, still is boring to me" or something like that.Joshua:

I love watching Chris Smoove's playthroughs the most. His commentary is hilarious.Comment

Re: Watching games instead of playing them?
I do this for certain games. I'm a huge Splinter cell fan, but really had no interest buying the latest one, so i just watched it on youtube to get some peace of mind about the storyline.
It can be fun and just like watching a movie or a TV series, if the person doing the videos does it right. Then you get some people who do walkthrough videos and scream "take that biotch!" every time they kill somebody. really wrecks the theatrics or whatever.Comment

Yes I do all the time. If the game is mostly all about the story or campaign im not going to drop $60 to experience it when I can watch it on YouTube. I'll be doing it with games like Last of Us and Tomb Raider.Last edited by The_Wise_One; 12-17-2012, 01:29 AM.SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

Re: Watching games instead of playing them?
I've been playing Resident Evil 5 on veteran, i'm currently in chapter 6-1, and i'm actually watching a couple of wakthroughs of parts i already gone through and found to be particularly really hard, i.e. the lizzard bridge, just in order to see if i'm the only one struggling in these specific parts, it's rather fun, really.Comment

Re: Watching games instead of playing them?
I especially like watching others play RPGS and such to see how they approach different situation differently then I did.
I also use to watch my dad play Diablo 1 when I was little since I was scared of playing it myself. Lol.PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os

Re: Watching games instead of playing them?
I think I've watched the Giant Bomb play more games over the past 3 months than I have spent playing games. There's a ton of games I have that I want to play, but lately I seem to be more in the mood to watch someone else play.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Watching games instead of playing them?
I actually did this once. I always wanted to play Mass Effect series but since i only own a PS3 i could only start at part 2 so i watched some guy's playthrough of part 1 on youtube... Then a month later the Trilogy gets announced. Go figure... haha"In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened." - Vin Scully

Re: Watching games instead of playing them?
I enjoy watching other people play shooters...only if I'm there in person though. There's no point to watching it over the internet.
As for RPG's and Platformers? Best believe I enjoy watching someone else go through and see what choices they make. The first ever series I watched someone else play through was I WANNA BE THE GUY.
THAT. ****. WAS. HILARIOUS.
Edit: Here ya go. The first play-through I ever watched in its entirety (there might be more than 30 videos maybe?)
