GTA Vice City Question

I just got the Xbox double pack for Christmas, and I've been playing a lot of Vice City.
<Possible SPoiler for those who haven't played it yet>
















I'm stuck at two places , at Kent Paul's mission, where you have to save Lance from the junkyard. I can get pass the first group of Diaz's men just by takin them out with my car, but then they beat by their sheer advantage in size. I have the same problem with the mission Avery Carrington gives you, where he tells you to kill the Haitian drug lord to start a gang war. I get outnumbered to greatly to be able to get to my target, by the time I get near my target, I'm dead. Any specific strategy or way to beat these missions?

Use full body armor and health before going in.

Use a car to run guys over.

For the first one fun the first set of guys over with a fast, but stable car, then use the shotgun for the next set, then use the sniper rifle to take out the guys on the crane and switch back to the shotgun. It took me a few tries but thats how I beat it.

I did pretty much what TarHeelBorn said. I stopped the car up the road away from the junkyard, and sniped the car until it blew up, killing the few around it. Then walked into the junkyard very slowly with a Spaz Shotgun, and one by one targeted people and killed them. It was actually REALLY easy when I figured that out.
