Re: Xbox 2 Rumor: No hardrive?

I think its the right thing to do from a technical point. HDs have moving parts and fail often(lifespan of about 5 years on average). It would be wise to have it so users could buy a normal IDE HD of their chooseing and install it themselves. This way when it failed they would not have to send their xbox in ect. The wey things are now, you will have Atari 2600s that will outlive many many xboxes.

Likewise, if you could use the Xbox as a DVR then being able to install your own HD would make it easy to choose the HD size you wanted.

I wonder how well Nintendo will do in the next round of console wars since they said their only interested in making a gaming machine. I read a quote where a Nintendo exec said people don't buy a video game system to .... play games.....

Well I don't think their's any right to their thinking. It's more of cost and time restraints. Let's face it the old consoles well atlesat the Xbox haven't really reached it's full potential and we are already talking about the new conoles.

It think MS and Sony have got to create a system that will capture the imagination of collection of people and only have limited time, resources and no real advancing hardware since their last conoles. So MS is thinking that have to cut the HD because of cost and time. Maybe they are thiking of creating a console that breaks the 199 barrier out of the gate and to do that bells and whitsles have to be cut.

But this doesn't make since with their past business decisions. The harddrive is needed because of XBL. They aren't going to abandon online gaming as well. Plus MS did a few things right that Sony hasn't really recovered from. The Xbox included everything needed for a good console. The PS2 has a lot of addons but most gamers don't really by a lot of addons.

                  I think it's money decision.

All this console talk is nice and all, but we also have to remember we are 2 years away from them being introduced.

The Xbox will be tapping it's potential with it's future releases of Halo 2 and Fable and other games. I say we enjoy what we have now and speculate later.

                        Rumours are just that, rumours.

For EGM to come out and say this is not wise of them. It could be dangerous.
