Same here - most people are stating this is their #1 game of the decade...wow, such high accolades.

I played about 2 hours of it and it just didn't pull-me-in like other games did (Last of Us, Skyrim, RD2) - I don't know what it is, but it just didn't. Now, will all this social-distancing, I think it's about time I give it another shot. If not, it will just go back in the cabinet again...

Really enjoying this game on Switch. Took down the Griffin a little while ago. That felt good.

How far into the game is that? I just picked up the quest to kill the griffin but don’t know how far off it is until I get to fight one.

Hopefully it’s not too soon because I’m beyond awful at combat lol.

In terms of story, not very far. I did several side quests before engaging in combat with him, though.

That’s my plan. I need to not only level up but lessen to fight effectively.

I bought this game three times. Tried and failed several times to get into it, never leaving White Orchard. Took a hard sell from a buddy and just knuckled down to get into Velen, the first major area, and I was sold. It is indeed my fave game of all time and I've played through it three times in two years...also read the books as the world is so rich.

That being said, find a game that you'll enjoy. It's hard to ignore the mob (I hate Bethesda games, Horizon Zero Dawn, and all Halo and Gears...boy do I hear it) but if you aren't having fun, move along.

This was my problem my first try. I didn’t get out of White Orchard and never really got into the real game yet. I’m pot committed now and will push through to get into the meat of this game!

So before following the Main Quest, I've been doing as many side quests as possible. I just finished the Devil of the Well quest. I expected a more difficult fight but it went quicker than expected. The more I play, the more I'm loving this game and picking up the different quests. One thing I have zero clue of what to do or when I should do it is alchemy. For the Devil of the Well quest, they said I should have made some sort of oil. No clue where to get the ingredients so I went into battle without it. It's definitely something I will need to learn as I go.

With that being said, I also finished the first episode of the Netflix series this morning and between the game and the show, I'm going to get sucked into this world hardcore for the foreseeable future!

I'm doing the same thing - side quests over main as I continue to try and learn the game and lore.

The Alchemy stuff is confusing to me, too; I never seem to have the materials needed and you're usually not instructed on where to gather them.

Start the alchemy stuff early - once you start getting halfway or towards the end it really helps level the field in your advantage and even makes Geralt a bit OP in some areas.

The monster guide should be utilized until you remember it. There will have what potions, oils, etc are most effective against each monster.

I had finished the game 1 1/2 times before really starting to understand just how in-depth character building was. I was upgrading and assigning things to slots pretty arbitrarily then I saw someone's build on YouTube and my mind was blown.

The great thing is there really isn't a penalty for doing things that way.. the game can really be as in depth as you want it or don't want it to be.

I didn't really understand the mutagens, alchemy and character building till I was in the DLC/end game when it was too late to matter in my first playthrough tbh.
