It appears the PC version has some serious optimization issues. I think I’m going to wait on a patch before I jump all in.

Tempted to try out the PS5 version in the meantime.

The ray tracing on PS5 makes the movements a clunky mess. I'll just play on performance. The game is still beautiful, anyway. Just so happy to be back in that world.

Yea, seeing a lot of issues with the PC version right now. That sucks for those who have been waiting. Fortunately for myself, I still have not finished my Witcher 2 playthrough, so I'm in no rush to play this yet. Hopefully they can get it all ironed out soon, though.

Really enjoying the game with the upgrade. Looks gorgeous and the frame rate is really smooth in performance.

              Re: The Witcher 3

The hotfix released on PC the other day seems to have helped a decent bit with stability. I’m still getting some crashes with RT on, but I don’t think I’m going to mess with RT anymore until they further optimize the game in a future patch.

Digital Foundry put out their review of the update yesterday and they confirmed what others were already seeing, that the game is cpu limited and not utilizing extra cpu cores like you would expect. They also pointed out how there doesn’t seem to be a noticeable visual difference between the dx11 and dx12 non-RT versions of the game, but there’s a huge performance hit, especially in towns and cities.

I think that’s part of the reason why RT is so damn expensive performance wise. Not only is it only an on/off toggle, unlike what they did for Cyberpunk, where RT had medium/high/ultra etc., but it’s also gimped from the start because of poor dx12 optimization.

Hopefully a patch will come to make RT and dx12 more manageable, but until then I think the best way to go is the dx11 version at ultra+. Maybe use the extra headroom for hair works or DLDSR…

While it’s disappointing RT is nearly unusable if you want halfway decent frame rates, the Ultra+ setting looks really great. The foliage, trees, and grass in particular look soooooo damn good. Overall, the vanilla game now looks like you have the old version modded to the gills, but in the most tasteful way possible.

                Re: The Witcher 3

We discover through the game that no new Witchers are being raised or educated. When the last Witcher passes away, what will the unfortunate people of their planet do? Just put up with the many creatures that (supposedly) swarm throughout every crevice in it? Is there a resolution to this in any of the potential conclusions?

Finished another play-through, this weekend at a little over 200 hours. Still my favorite of all time. Already miss the characters, but I've started Mass Effect for the first time, so hopefully that provides a nice distraction.

                    Good choice on ME.

I'm currently playing through it again on PS5. I just got to Novigrad and met up with Triss. I've done a handful of things in the City but have a long way to go in the game still. I don't have the free time I once did. It took some time to adjust but I'm really digging the quick sign casting opposed to the old way.

I'm also in Novigrad, playthrough four, doing everything as usual, and loving it in ray tracing mode on Series X. Game still looks great, liked the new quest, and the new default map setting is much cleaner (no more infinitely intimidating question marks everywhere). It remains the GOAT for me.

Worst part is having reread the books again prior, and knowing who Geralt is, I can't make myself choose new things on the path. Forever Yen, sparing trolls and sentient monsters, always getting my coin for jobs, etc.

Really enjoying it so far. I have Witcher 3 controls on the brain, tho, so I'm constantly hitting the wrong button to run, can't jump, and keep trying to use Witcher senses. LMAO!

I played Elden Ring but eventually my character got to the point where the game wasn't challenging.

Aside from the story of this game - I use ps5 - is this game still playable as an open world game where I can roam around and get into challenging fights?

So, if you are experiencing the same issue with ray tracing making the movements clunky in a game, you may want to try switching to performance mode if it is available. This guide about Witcher 3 items code may improve the gameplay experience, although it may come at the cost of some visual fidelity. Ultimately, it depends on your personal preferences and what you prioritize in your gaming experience.

Dusted off the old Witcher 3 disk and updated to next gen a few weeks ago.

WOW. The game looks and feels great. I'm excited to play through and enjoy it again.
