Re: Killzone: Shadow Fall
In this video interview, the game's director explains his hopes for emergent game modes In Shadow Fall and talks about Jimmy Fallon's gaming abilities.
Killzone: Shadow Fall is pushing hard to be the multiplayer game of choice at the launch of the PlayStation 4. The team at Guerilla games is bringing back Warzones, but are changing up the formula for Killzone: Shadow Fall's competitive multiplayer. The game features a healthy number of options for customizing a game mode to be exactly as you'd prefer, this customized mode is then uploaded and shared with the rest of the Killzone: Shadow Fall community. These customized "Warzones" can be browsed through, with the development team choosing the most interesting variations to showcase in a featured playlist.
Multiplayer has players customizing loadouts and choosing between the scout, assault, and support classes. During a special hands-on opportunity at Gamescom, Killzone: Shadow Fall's game director Steven ter Heide also detailed plans for "expansion packs" after the game's release this November. There will be ten maps available for multiplayer on the disc, with more on the way. Heide also made the bold promise that "all of our post-launch DLC will be free". I played several rounds of the game and it feels like a solid shooter that will be appreciated during the early life-cycle of the PlayStation 4. Check out our coverage from E3 to learn more about Killzone: Shadow Fall's singleplayer.Last edited by LingeringRegime; 08-24-2013, 09:24 PM.Comment

Re: Killzone: Shadow Fall
I have been playing KZ3 this weekend quite a bit actually just to sharpen up for Shadow Fall.
One thing is for sure, the first playing game style/playlist I make will ban proximity mines and being able to disguise ones self. The proximity mines are the worst though so easy to get kills by just dropping them in high traffic areas. So cheap. I am glad we can play Shadow Fall the way we want to play it.Comment

Re: Killzone: Shadow Fall
I remember reading one of the articles posted (can't recall which one) that each of the Warzone Playlists will have its own self contained leader board. That is pretty damn nice.
It is here in this video.

I don't know about you guys but that seems pretty hardcore and not catering to the lowest common denominator to me.Comment

Now that the multiplayer trailer for Killzone: Shadow Fall has been released at Gamescom, some fans are noticing a curious absence in the footage: the ISA M82 assault rifle. It’s true – the trusty M82 is no longer used by the VSA, and has been replaced by the brand-new M55. We asked art director and firearms designer Roy Postma about the design for the new assault rifle and its relation to the M82.

Going hands-on with Killzone: Shadow Fall’s multiplayer mode for the first time at Gamescom, I couldn’t help but feel that Shadow Fall represents a sea change for the veteran shooter series. The gameplay retains the series’ signature weight and heft, so you never feel like you’re ice-skating through the the meticulously detailed environments. But thanks to a host of refinements from Guerrilla Games, Shadow Fall is undeniably a faster, more fluid, and more satisfying Killzone. Call it Killzone reborn.
DualShock 4 plays a significant role here, with its massively upgraded ergonomics and shooter-friendly L2 and R2 triggers (though Shadow Fall will allow you to use the classic L1 and R1 as well, if you prefer). After my play session, Game Director Steven ter Heide commented that the Shadow Fall no longer uses aim assist, making it a truer test of skill. And you’ll never even notice that change, given the high responsiveness of DualShock 4’s comfortable new analog sticks.
Shadow Fall’s multiplayer mode starts by loosening stuffy conventions that have defined many modern military shooters. All of the game’s 22 weapons come unlocked, so you’re free to start building specialized classes from the get-go — a move that Guerrilla Games believes will help newcomers find an effective loadout quickly. And rather than grinding matches to earn XP, you’ll augment your equipment and upgrade your skills by completing more than 1,500 skill-based feats and challenges — everything from nailing headshots to destroying enemy shields and much, much more.
One of Guerrilla’s stated goals for Shadow Fall is to keep the game evolving with its player base, and the user-defined Warzones seem like an ideal place to start. Future expansion packs that add new Warzone modifiers are designed to keep Killzone fans experimenting for months, and years, to come.
Shadow Fall will ship with 10 multiplayer maps, and Guerrilla has already confirmed that post-launch DLC maps will be offered free of charge. And the final game promises to dish up an array of other niceties, from clan support to online and offline multiplayer bots, party chat, and a redesigned Killzone.com interface.Last edited by LingeringRegime; 08-28-2013, 01:31 PM.Comment

Killzone: Shadow Fall's Multiplayer Gives Over Full Playlist Control
Article Below the Spoiler Tag..
SpoilerKillzone: Shadow Fall's multiplayer component will focus on customizable game types that can be shared, promoted and played by the community at large, and the functionality was demoed during a Gamescom 2013 demo.
The customization features aren't so different from those offered by competing shooters; players are able to set a multitude of rules, parameters, usable weapons and equipment, maps and more for their game type. Like the Warzones of Killzone 3, each game type can include multiple objectives in one match. Teams of players could be competing to bomb each other's bases one minute, then taking part in an old-fashioned deathmatch the next.
After building and naming your game type, you can share it with not just your friends, but with the whole Killzone: Shadow Fall community. If the game type gets more popular, it can become applicable for matchmaking, or promoted to every player's feed of suggested Warzones from the multiplayer main menu.
"The idea literally is that you have a couple of tabs — the Guerrilla featured ones, the community favorites, for example — we can push content in there," game director Steven her Heide explained to Polygon following the demo. "So if we find stuff that's really fun to play, or interesting, we can push it in there and let people easily find it."
Rules can be tailored to require very specific builds for players, which affords a lot of creativity, given the number of loadout options available. Characters can choose one of three classes — a lightweight scout, a heavy assault soldier or a supporter — then unlock and upgrade primary and secondary weapons, gear, special abilities and more.
By making these choices for the player in a bespoke Warzone, some clever matches can ensue. One Warzone briefly demoed put one team in heavy armor with light machine guns, and tasked them with defending their base from the other team, equipped with invisibility powers and knives.
Creators are afforded with a lot of control, so it's almost certain that some of them will find ways to exploit the system, making clearly unbalanced game types and unfair match-ups. Even if those get promoted by the community, ter Heide said, Guerrilla's not going to get in the way of their growth.
"That's the cool thing, I think it's giving power to the people," ter Heide said. "Let them have the controls, and if they figure something out and we go, 'Well, this is way overpowered, what they've done is completely out of balance,' or whatever, but they enjoy playing it? Who are we to say that they can't? Better yet, let's find out what they find enjoyable about it and see if we can provide them with more options and expansion packs to customize it even further and get it to the state where they want it to be."
Those paid expansion packs will increase what players are able to customize, based on feedback to the Warzones that become popular after Shadow Fall's launch.
"Expansion packs are mostly additional features, we're looking into additional weapons, character classes, that sort of stuff to broaden the experience that's there," ter Heide said, later clarifying that maps will also be added to the multiplayer post-launch for free.
The multiplayer mode will also utilize the PS4's social features to help spread custom-made Warzones.
"The idea is that everybody can stream what they're playing," ter Heide explained. "If you see something interesting, you kind of go, 'Oh, I want to jump in that,' and you should just be able to press a button and join that game. That's something to us that's just really appealing; it's another way to browse the games rather than looking at set pictures or descriptions, you can look at what's going on in each game, and see a feed."
Killzone: Shadow Fall launches alongside the PlayStation 4 Nov. 15. Once production on the core game wraps up, ter Heide explained, a part of the team will stay behind to work on expansions while the rest of the team will move onto the studio's new, unannounced IP. However, ter Heide said that particular project "will be a while."Comment

Re: Killzone: Shadow Fall
Never played a KZ game before, aside from the demos, which seemed to have the famed "heaviness" to me, though that's not necessarily a bad thing. Also not a big MP person so I would be playing mostly SP and MP with bots. Still, I am very intrigued by this game. Anyone wanna try to sell me some more on it?
BTW, not into Halo or COD games. Really liked Far Cry 3 as a FPS and there are others. But this game has me very curious.NCAA: Michigan Wolverines

Here are a few reasons to buy this game at launch:
1) Free DLC
2) All weapons unlocked at the jump
3) Arguably the best looking game for PS4.
4) Offline Bots
5) Customized "Warzones" so you can tinker with the settings to your liking and that "Warzone" will have it's own self-contained leaderboard.
6) The game mode "Warzones" which is the very best mode in MP shooters. Warzone is a best of seven match that consists of different gametypes that are randomized. It is exemplified the above video.
7) GG has vowed to support this game for years to come
8) 60 FPS for MP
9) The single player is not as linear as before. The player will have many different options to carry out missions. Think Dishonored.
10) No aim assist. Straight skill homie.
EDIT: I had to include this little bonus gameplay footage from KZ3. The stars must have been aligned just right....
