Definitely thought the game was good. I was freaked out in the beginning. But I got used to the scary parts and wasn't as freaked out for about the second half of the game.

I was the same way. The game was a lot more freakier to start. There was still some tense moments down the stretch. I still can't wrap my head where the story went though. It was just, weird. Didn't care a ton for now or unfolded. Overall it's a solid B.

                  Re: Outlast

I beat this a while back, guess i should post my thoughts on it:

So overall, it’s an interesting game and a step in the right direction for horror. The concept of only being able to run and hide from enemies has been done before, but outlast does a good job of making it feel tense at times, but it can get a little repetitive. It definitely can create some unease/tension with the atmosphere though, and i think it does a good job with the environments(it got a little overdone with dead bodies everywhere at times). Overall, i’d say it has some creepy/ tense moments, but i don’t think it’s quite as scary as a lot of people hyped it up to be.

It does rely on a decent amount of pop up scares, and i don’t really find those truly scary. Pop up scares rely on a loud noise and something obviously, popping up to surprise you. Look at it this way, if i snuck up on you and jumped out of a closet and made a loud noise, you might jump, but i don’t think that’s true fear that’s human instinct/reflex to be startled by that.

The story overall is not bad, it starts off pretty interesting, but towards the end i thought parts of it were cheesy, and it got a little over the top. I’ll just say this. It was much better at the beginning when it’s just dealing with insane patients and experiments on them. Also i liked collecting documents and notes that add to the story.

Anyway, as for the meat of the game. It does a good job of creating a sense of panic when you’re getting chased, but they made it a bit too predictable sometimes. Giving music cues when an enemy sees you wasn’t a good choice(makes a loud pang when an enemy sees you and plays the “chase theme music), it would of been better to just have the enemy see you and have them come after you with no warning other than the sounds they make. Also the music kind of changes for each enemy(for example the big guy has his own theme music so before i even see him or hear him, i know he’s there because his “theme” starts playing) so it gives away whatever enemy is in the room. Makes it easier to predict and gets rid of the unknown element, bad move. One other problem with the enemies chasing you, they WILL NOT FIND YOU if you hide in a spot in a room before they actually see you hide. Meaning, if you run into a cell with one bed and hide under that one and only bed, the enemy even if they were chasing you, will follow you into that room and then because they didn’t see you hide, give up and move on. The enemies should of been smarter or at least more random, because they tend to stick to set paths. Having it so there’s a random chance they’ll check any hiding spot would of added more tension to the game.

Oh yeah, i almost forgot about the camera aspect of the game, i thought this was cool actually. Your character has a video camera and certain things that you witness while having your camera equipped get added to your notes. Also it gets reaaally dark and your camera has night vision, but it drains the batteries. I actually really like this, because it adds some tension and makes you preserve your night vision mode, and you’ll always be looking for spare batteries scattered around. You do not want to be stranded with no batteries and limited light/vision.

Overall the game needs some polishing, but it’s still definitely a step in the right direction for horror games(none of this action oriented bull****) and has some interesting concepts It has some scary/tense moments no doubt, but to me wasn’t quite as scary as a lot of people said it was. Still a solid horror game though, and definitely worth playing, it’s a fun experience. I’d recommend it for anyone who has a horror video game craving.

I'm interested to see what the whistleblower dlc will bring.

                    Re: Outlast

DLC expansion, Whistleblower will come out on 6th May

Whistleblower puts players in the role of software engineer Waylon Park, the tipster who led the main game's protagonist, Miles Upshur, into investigating the ominous mental hospital. This expansion will follow the events leading up to Park's betrayal of the evil Murkoff corporation, and while much of this add-on will be a prequel, it will skip around in time and also cover the final events in the Mount Massive Asylum's story.

WhistlerBlower was AWESOME. In this DLC you have 2 main enemies that chase you around. Both are hilarious and very gruesome in their behavior. Well worth buying.
