    my mafia review

    Gameplay
The game can be tough, and it is because players will have to get accustomed to the whole control configuration. Once players can get past that, they will find a real gem. The game offers numerous different missions to undertake. They range from being the wheelman to actually doing the "business" yourself. I never found the game to be repetitive in anyway. The only thing that hampers the game is the beginning. Players will be the wheelman having to drive around the city, these missions are slow, and down right boring. These missions are very important though cause they get the player aquatinted with the city in which they will be doing all of their "business" deals in. Once they get past these missions, they will be enthralled into the game until the very end.
    Graphics
The game looks beautiful! All of the cars are modeled accurately, player models have a high polygonal count, and the textures really bring the game to life. The city is huge, and it is not just stale, it is a living, breathing city, full of cars driving on the streets, people walking on the sidewalks, and trolleys going out through the town. All of the NPCs have accurate and highly detailed faces.
    Sound
The soundtrack choice for this game is nothing short than brilliant! It features popular music that personifies era, such as swing music. When the times get tough, the music will adjust accordingly and you will be wrapped up in the action ever more so.
    concept
You are in the shoes of a taxi driver that works his way up to a big person in the mob, what is not to like about that? Mafia brings all of those gangster movies to life, and will play on your emotions to see how you can handle being in the mob. Players will have access to a multitude of real life weapons such as sawn-off shotgun, the infamous Thompson Tommy gun, and everyone's favorite: the baseball bat. With the attention to detail, it will become a sure fire hit

Aside from the storyline missions, can you do odd-jobs around the city? How much free-roaming is involved in the game?

There are a few optional extra jobs you can do to get new cars, but there isn't that much branching in the game. At least that's the case for the PC version.

Oh yeah, there's a sequel also being developed now, which is great news, IMHO, since I loved Mafia for the PC. One of the best games I've ever played.

                      Re: my mafia review

Nice review. I need to buy it for XXBOX as I did'nt beat the PC version. I got to the last 2 mission where I had a high speed chase (if ou call 55 MPH high speed) trying to catch this dude and we end up having a massive shootout in this train yard. THen my cpu and the game started stuttering uncontrollably. It would of worked it I turned the detail down but what fun would that be?

Anyway, great game. To bad its horribly short and linear. The linear part comes from the story line. There is nothing you can do to alter the story. The gameplay is not linear as you can drive diffrent paths to get ot your location. But once the 1st Person game starts, the linear-ness starts. But IMO its still worth a purchase. Its a great story and fun gameplay but the game may not serve any poppose after beating it. The free ride mot not be all interesting.

Sounds good...but how is it, or is it comparable to the GTA series? What I meant to ask is--do the controller feel 'sluggish'? And are there side-missions to keep things fresh? Thanks for any info.
