Re: Anyone Miss WWII Shooters?
I've noticed myself straying from the shooter genre more and more. If only the developers behind Timesplitters were still alive...
As for WWII shooters, I played too many on the PS2. I use to be heavily into the older COD and Medal of Honor games. The old..
"hey, should we attack that guy?, he is all alone and wandering through our base!"
"nah, let's wait until he gets on that mounted machine gun with unlimited ammo, then we will rush him with bolt action rifles!"

Re: Anyone Miss WWII Shooters?
I just mean instead of alternating modern games each year, say treyarch alternates modern/wwii with their two year cycle and its perfectly fine.NHL: Vegas Golden Knights
NCAAF: Ohio State
NFL: Minnesota Vikings
MLB: Chicago CubsComment

Re: Anyone Miss WWII Shooters?
They need to make more open ended campaigns, where you can actually approach situations differently and use some kind of tactics/flanking.
Not these linear corridor shooters, where the only thing to ponder is which respawning enemy to shoot first, before the next cutscene.Comment

How about the Korean War? It is America's forgotten war but it had moments that would translate to a video game very well. Imagine a lone Soldier on a .50 caliber machine gun holding a hill top against wave after wave of Chinese soldiers. Moments like that really happened and a few soldiers even lived to tell the tales of it.My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

I don't really care what the skin is just as long as the gameplay is fun and has something fresh to it.

Re: Anyone Miss WWII Shooters?
Exactly. If the game design is good/interesting I'll sit out there with some muskets, Revolutionary war style.
Has anyone played the Brothers in Arms game this generation ? I played the ones for ps2 and didn't think they were too bad. Def a lot more interesting than the formula for CoD, ect... campaign wise.Comment

Re: Anyone Miss WWII Shooters?
I would like it because gunplay is the focus. The thing I hate about modern shooters (more accurately the direction they are going in) is the gadgets like cloaking, heart beat sensors etc. I like when the focus is actually scouting the field of view, seeing someone or noticing something and killing it (or be killed) CoD4 and CoD Waw were both very good at that and I enjoyed the hell out of both of them.
Black Ops I must admit liking too. Bought 2 BF games and they have a gummy control problem which I wish they didn't - and they could use an extra 30 people per side (hopefully possible next gen)
So I'm all for WW2 because unless there is a very screwy premiss - you're kind of guaranteed it's about spotting and shootingLiquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

I'd kill for a Korean War or Vietnam War Battlefield. Not just an expansion, but a full game dedicated to it.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

Re: Anyone Miss WWII Shooters?
I think it has been long enough on the consoles. We can handle a dated game. The problem is, it can't come from Call of Duty & I don't see Dice/EA backing and working with any other new shooters anytime soon. Medal of Honor sort of flopped. I feel stupid for paying 60 for the first one.
I played World at War, but before that I never was into many WW2 shooters except the old MoH games.Comment

Re: Anyone Miss WWII Shooters?
I miss innovation the most.
It is not the time period of the shooter that needs a change it is the shooter genre in general has become a very "been there done that" feel, no matter if it is scfi, modern, early era, or early future. The simple fact remains they all are extremely common in mechanics and style.
I don't know how many people will remember this but I played the living **** out of this game for years.
The first large scale first person shooter war game MMO
