    Halo 5

I wish they would go back to their roots. Everyone spawning with DMR's and BR's ruined the game for me. Throw in classes and perks and it wasn't Halo anymore.

The Director of Franchise Development, Frank O'cconor has teased a "return to Halo fundamentals". Also, 343 over the past year has hired a few former pro players to work on the multiplayer team and others from the community.

No bigger message was sent than community abandoning Halo 4 multiplayer. People went back to even playing Reach, with it and Halo 3 being in the top 10 on Xbox Live Activity while Halo 4 wasn't even in the top 20. Whatever Halo 5 multiplayer ends up being, it sure isn't going to be another Halo 4.

Would be nice. I thought the multiplayer was decent, but it definitely held my and my friends' attention the shortest by far. I didn't mind the addition of jet packs and whatnot in Reach, but the loadouts just made things worse.

Speaking of maps, probably the first Halo game where none of them really stood out to me as well.

Abandon the classes from Halo 4 and make the abilities like Jet Pack, Armor Lock and Cloak pick ups again and I'll be on board.

The multiplayer peaked for me at Halo 3. I just didn't like Reach at all multiplayer-wise. I liked H4's multiplayer but it just didn't have that Halo feel to it.

Agent Locke playable in Halo 5, Nightfall trailer

Agent Locke, the star of Ridley Scott's Halo: Nightfall, is a playable character in Halo 5: Guardians, 343 Industries revealed today during a San Diego Comic-Con panel.

Nightfall is the origin story for Jameson Locke, which leads into his role in Halo 5. Set on a broken piece of the Halo ring from Halo: Combat Evolved, this is the story of Locke growing into a Spartan. 343's Frank O'Connor described Locke's story as "a superhero origin story" that's more closely integrated to Guardians than Forward Unto Dawn was with Halo 4.

Locke actor Mike Colter (The Good Wife, The Following) is doing motion capture and voice work for the character in 343's Xbox One game.

Whether Colter's character is friend or foe to Master Chief is to be determined. Colter wouldn't answer during the panel's Q&A, but O'Connor explained, "We'll answer that question one year from now in this very room."

Halo 4 multiplayer was worlds better than Reach, but I agree the Class thing was a stretch.

I understand they have to expand, but what made the original Halo's special was the simplicity of the game play and the memorable maps. Just expand upon that.

Beta will be 4v4, feature 7 maps, and 3 gametypes. Also, no loadouts and Frankie already confirmed there's no more armor abilities.

The next generation of Halo multiplayer begins on Dec. 29, 2014 with the start of the three week long Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta. Announced during the Xbox gamescom 2014 Media Briefing, the Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta will run from Dec. 29, 2014 through Jan. 18, 2015 and focus on just a portion of Halo 5: Guardians’ full multiplayer experience – arena gameplay. Featuring intense 4 vs. 4 showdowns, arena combat in Halo 5: Guardians will start players with the same loadout, ensuring matches are perfectly balanced and competitive. The Multiplayer Beta includes seven maps and three game types, as well as a variety of different armor sets to customize your Spartan with.

“Having a beta this early this early in development is crucial because it gives us as developers the opportunity to react to the feedback we get from fans and take it into account as we complete the multiplayer experience for Halo 5: Guardians,” said Holmes.

The Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta will run on dedicated servers at 60 frames-per-second to deliver the best multiplayer experience, and include unlockables which can be carried over to Halo 5: Guardians when it launches in fall in 2015.

This is what Halo 4 should've been. Glad Halo is going back to its roots.

You know, I thought I was doing the same thing. But the more I think about it the more I realize that there will be tons of other games I'll want to play on the one. Crackdown, Gears, MCC, Halo 5...etc. Right now...yeah it's just for one game. But really, you'll actually probably get a lot of use out of it.

I played Crackdown 2 and thought it was the most boring game of last gen. Controls were wonky and gameplay was just "meh". I was a die hard Gears fan and will be for years to come but it lost it's identity with Gears 3.

Halo and Forza are really the only two exclusives on the Xbox One that I'm remotely interested in. Every other game I play I can get on my PS4 with Sony's exclusive games.

And just like Halo Crackdown and Gears can be turned around. Crackdown has brought back the original creator from the first game. Gears we don't know too much about yet, but I suspect they will follow in Halo's footsteps and focus more on competitive style play.
