Interesting stuff, If i'm the folks at MS i'd release the Xbox-next a few months (up to 6 months) before the PS3. Why you ask? Well because most of the time when the first console from a new generation is released they tend to get the market share much quicker than the console that comes out second.

Just look at what happened with the X-Box. It has a huge hardcore gamer following but it STILL hasn't toppled PS2 in terms of marketshare and popularity. Tho the whole XBL feature has made the race very close in the last year.

As far as HD support goes...I think that it would be a death knell for them to take it out and i'm hoping that it's just a rumour as i'm strongly thinking of purchasing Xbox-next. If it doesn't have HD support and PS3 does. Well you know where my money is going.

good point because they are technically speaking probably going to be about the same, with ps2 probably going to be more advance, so whomever releases first will draw in the new kids, but ps2 has a large fanbase, and they will probably wait a few extra months, so then they can at least play those ps2 games on ps3. Plus then sony will probably have a better console, so that will make more people buy it. If they can get free online, that will be even better.

well, the first batch of this generation of consoles have turned out to be crap so I wouldn't run out to buy one as soon as it's released.

I have a gut feeling, meaning I have no inside info or anything, just a gut feeling, that both PS3 and XBOX-next will have hard drives, but both hard drives will be sold separately.

Sure, consumers want the hard drive built into the system straight out of the factory, and many consumers would probably consider it a make or break option if one offered it and the other didn't.

But both Sony and Microsoft are whores for money, especially when it comes to peripherals. They make a ton of money from peripherals, and a hard drive would be yet another cash cow.

They know a hard drive takes away money from sold memory cards, so selling the hard drive separately makes up for that loss, and also satisfies the consumer's request for a hard drive.
