that is what one of the rumors was, but I was also thinking it might involve Shao Kahn considering he always seems to be involved as the big bad guy, although he wasn't in MKA so who knows?

Didnt Reptile turn into the Dragon King after MKA? I havent played the game in forever but i think his ending was something along those lines.

no clue I never finished the game with Reptile but I think it did hint that he may have become the Dragon King.

could smell that Nitara and Cyrax had been there recently. There was no
sign of them now, except for some scattered glass shards and a residual
trace of strong magical energies. His revenge would have to wait.
