Update from Gaijin Entertainment regarding Next Generation has me giddy, especially that teaser.....

Gaijin Entertainment announces that military online action War Thunder will get a major Content Update “New Power” and native next-gen consoles versions <b>in mid-November.</b> This update will bring a new version of Dagor Engine, big ships navy and a lot of other surprises.

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S native versions of War Thunder will work at 4K resolution with a steady 60 FPS refresh rate. The game will remain a crossplay title, with owners of different platforms playing on the same servers. All content and many visual improvements of the “New Power” will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well.

The full description of new visual and gameplay features, more information on the new fleet and the full list of new vehicles in the update will be published at the official War Thunder website in the coming days and weeks.

Picci, I've never really got deep enough into War Thunder, the handful of times I've attempted to play it has resulted in me grinding PvP team vs team dog fights with old biplanes.

Do you have any tips or proper routes to go about getting into the game correctly?

One of the biggest problems I noticed when I first started was being utterly lost and confused with the menus and what to do. There’s a lot of menus you’ll need to navigate and it’s not explained at any time where to find things, what they mean or how to do what you want. The whole thing seems poorly designed or explained. They've done some improvements so it maybe worth another look. If you were a previous World of Tanks player, you’ll have somewhat of an idea, as it’s the same premise and layout for leveling your tanks and vehicles, dumping research points into them so that you can move up in tiers. But unlike those games, these battles give you more of a sim/realistic play. If you’re fresh into the genre or a casual, you’re going to struggle from the start since the game definitely caters to hardcore fans.

Again, going back to when I first started, the PS4 was brand new and there weren't many games out at the time so this game was a constant play back for me. While I won't tell you how to spend your dollars, I did purchase twice I believe were 500 Eagle points on sale for $4.99 at separate times to help boost me into second and third tier vehicles slots. You're going to have to spend something to move on. You don't need to go nuts but its going to be something. From there I started going through the menus and started learning how each vehicle had special button assignments such as calling an air strike or ejecting a smoke grenade to help you escape when playing tanks. Playing and learning tendencies is important. Most importantly, you're going to need to play and build up your ranking. No need to explain to you that the more time you invest the greater your skills and confidence soars. There's so many games out there to play now. Many, are not going to dig hours into it after getting a beatdown or slaughtered, with the exception of hardcore fans, and the majority of them are from Europe and Asia.

I've actually done well for only investing $10 and x-amount of playing time. I'm nearly maxed in my profile points an well into the German tier 5 sonic aircrafts. However, Tanks, Marine ships and copters are in the rookie status group. Biggest reason? Don't want to invest so much time with so many games out there. There's only so much time we get to play.

Edit: Just to add another point. This game has lasted through its entire generation for me. I still continue to play it. I would have to say then it's, "my top dog"

New Power showed much graphical combat improvements for aircraft combat. Here is a new update for ground forces. Plus new events being planned soon with new toys for us to play with. The level of environment detail and new models is insane.

Just started this yesterday on my ps5.
Wow the game is great even though i suck at it!

It is very overwhelming too, at least to me it is.
So much info on the screen, research, training crews etc etc.
And all of that is not cheap at all.

I am now flying on the standard arcade controls. I'm 51 and having a very hard time indeed. I get killed very soon.
In the youtube vids i see people looking around while manouvering.
No idea how to do that.

I started with British planes. Every time i click go to battle it takes me to ground strike. So always the same mission.

Right now i'm pretty much clueless, but the game itself plays great.

First update of 2022. I can confirm the 4k visual and environmental effects as simply mouth-watering. The level of detail - stunning. Also, the "Warthog" and the USS Arizona makes its entry into the war!

So for whatever reason (probably the A-10 marketing) I yolo'd into this this weekend. I did all the tutorials, was enjoying myself, pretty game.

Hopped into some pearl harbor thing. Couldn't really do anything. Spawned as a ship, told my crew to fire... and nothing happens. There were no boats to fire on, and it seemed like I no longer had a cannon I could control in my destroyer (the one given to everyone) so land targets weren't an option. I also couldn't control my AA.

Whatever, I'm just being bad, I presume.

Swap over to tank, my lame old crummy tank. I spawn in several times, get killed immediately on the airfield crawling with good and bad guys. Think I got a shot off once. Experience is about what I expected in my bucket of bolts.

Hop into a plane, a really bad one (considering I am being surrounded by A-10s, other jets, and modern attach chopers), I get an assist, and also victimize a couple planes attempting to take off. Some moderate success.

But wait, I see an enemy ship. Lets hop back into the boat.

I get in the boat, and even w/ all the issues last time I know I can see torpedoes and the options for them on my hotbar.

Nope, nothing. Get the paths appearing for the different launchers, but none will launch. After a bit I exit back to hangar, confirm there are 30/30 on the ship for torpedoes. Nothing.

Swap over to the torpedo boat... same thing. Now... the enemy (they were red) was the USS Arizona... but I was US. Maybe I wasn't understanding something and it was an objective, but either way, I'm confused about why I wasn't able to fire anything (nor did my AI gunners when set to free fire).

I even then turned back, and wasn't able to freely fire my torpedoes randomly either.

Am I missing something?

Also targeting seems to be really funky compared to the tutorial, much more difficult to target an opponent.

Other than all that, fun game I haven't tried in a long while, but these problems will probably have me move along again, and certainly not bother to figure out what it'll take to unlock more hardware.

Was kinda hoping it might be fun for me and a few others to hope into vs AI.
