Took down the Exalt Base. That was a fun battle. It was close to being a disaster. 3 of my team had 2 or less health when the battle ended.

Love the Psionics. Mind controlled an Elite Muton. If the Mind Controlled would have failed, the team would have been in serious trouble.

      What a great game.....

      Spoiler

Its refreshing to see a game that is actually difficult on the normal level. The AI still gave me some breaks, but man do you pay for not thinking your tactics through.

Going to try an Ironman campaign on classic. That should crank the heat up to 11.

After playing this game through, I would have to give it a 9.5 easy. Considering I got this game for under $30 delivered to my door, it has to be one of the best values for the buck.

Hopefully this franchise sold well enough to make more games.

They said XCOM: Enemy Unknown (The original game) sold well, or at least I remember seeing something about it. I hope so, because this was the best game from 2013 imo if it counts since it is technically an expansion.

Ironman on classic difficulty is darn near impossible. Just don't get upgraded quick enough to compete it would seem. Win the first few battles no problem, but then things get real crazy real quick.

Update, this mode might be the hardest game I have ever played. Its fun and exciting, but I just keep getting whooped. I've started over about 10 times, and the game just keeps me coming back. I go to bed aty night thinking about what I should have done differently. Ironman classic is no joke.

I also read online that you have to leave aiming angles unchecked in the secondary options.

Its no wonder why the Thin Men have been like Angels of Death. They never miss. The other thing that gets me is Ill have my squad all out of turns except for my Assault player. There will be 1 thin man left so I use the extra move perk and shoot a shotgun right into the thin man. 3 points of damage......I just sit there, might as well just kill me now. They can whipe out a squad quick before you get laser weapons and carapace armor.

I will get through this on Classic Ironman.

Get my Sniper into great position, hunker down and one spits at me from the other building and poisons me while another one turns into plastic man jumps up on the roof behind my sniper and its all over. Get a Mech Warrior all leveled up and 3 of them appear and take him down like childs play. The rest of the squad starts crying like little girls......Time to restart.... From the very beginning.

                    Re: Xcom: Enemy Within

I finally beat Classic Ironman! It was no easy task. What made it really tough was that I didn't have a heavy for the last part of the game. No rocket launchers made some things difficult. I also didn't have anyone with lightning reflexes and my field medic was obliterated by a Sectopod.

But what I did have was a sniper with 129 aim and a 110 will. And another sniper with 110 aim and 99 will. A decent Mech warrior and an assault person. Everyone else were just squaddies so I usually brought 1 squaddie and a shiv with me.

Classic Ironman is such a great game. So much rides on every move. I actually had to abort a couple missions during the game and it was intense like escape from New York. One mission where aliens were terrorizing a city I landed may squad and as soon as I moved 1 team member there was a sectopod in the building and he want into over watch. So I moved my 2 snipers to the roof top and tried to draw him out for the easy kill. Not so fast, a couple Chrysalids appear on the roof top and because my snipers had squad sight instead of overwatch, they are sitting ducks. Then 2 cyberdisks appear along with 4 drones and zombies are coming out of the wood work. In the end, it was my snipers running from pillar to post to try to get to the evac area. They made it out alive but they were the only ones, and just like that, the game got a whole lot tougher.

The assault on the Exalt HQ killed off 2 colonels and a major. That was a major setback as well.

Surprisingly, I didn't lose anyone in the base defense despite there being an Ethreal and sectopod along with about 10 mechtoids. The snipers were the key and running out squaddies on suicide missions to spot enemies for the snipers. In all there were 46 aliens that invaded the base. Without a colonel sniper with in the zone, I don't see how defense would have been possible.

I didn't lose anyone in the final Assault either. 2 Snipers + Ghost armor = Win.

I really hope they come out with another in this series.

Just purchased Enemy Within on Android and now I'm addicted all over again. They did an awesome job with the port, the touch screen controls are seamless. I never played the expansion so this game still feels new and fresh. Time to kick some alien butt!

I was thinking this engine would be awesome in the Star Wars universe. Assaulting the death star with rebels, wookies, main characters against storm troopers, bounty hunters, and members of the empire would be pretty sweet.

That would be cool! I would also like to see a WWII version with this engine. I know there are a couple out there but none are as difficult as X-com.

I would not mind seeing a Halo Wars 2 with x-com engine, but I was one these few people who enjoyed Halo Wars.
