Re: Need suggestions to keep me away from Next Gen...

Thanks for all the replies fellas. So far I have picked up Dead Space 2, and I completely forgot XCOM was free for PS Plus members so I scooped that as well. DS2 has been nothing short of amazing in the few hours I have played it. I will probably pick up a few more games in this thread after I complete these two. I am also playing NBA 2k13 (already have those classic rosters) and Fifa 13 on the side.

I am in a different state of mind right now when it comes to gaming. Really trying to go back to having fun, with a pick up and play mentality. With the limited amount of time I have to play games I want to enjoy every bit.

Pretty comfortable not moving to next-gen at this point after reading all the hardware and game reviews. Seems like both systems have potential that wont be realized for quite some time. And this appears to be one of the worse launch lineups in the history in gaming (IMO).

Some more things will be required, but how about Rocksmith?

Gran Turismo 6 (when it comes out) and a Logitech GT wheel will consume a lot of time too.
      Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60

Same here. I have always been a pick up and play with non-sports games. Either they entertain me or not. I am replaying DS3 and getting the DLC which I never did. I freaking love this series!!

Games in my que after I complete it:

        Dark Souls
        Dishonored
        Far Cry 3
        Borderlands 2
Red Dead Redemption (30% done with that)
Batman Arkham Orgins (waiting for a big price drop)
Deus Ex 3 Human Revolution (started this and got 25% in...will start over from scratch)

The more I look at my catalog of titles.....the more and more I am thinking...PS4?? Not for a long while. Looking more and more like Spring of 2015 when The Show 15 comes out and they have had at least one dev cycle under their belt. That is the game that brought me to PS3.....and no doubt will be the game that takes me to PS4 once all the kinks are worked out....and it is a fully featured mode rich game.

There are literaly dozens of games I have yet to play this gen that I want to immerse myself into.

I have GT5 and was considering picking up the Logitech wheel at some point as well for my son and I to play with for fun. Those things arent cheap though...you recommend one?

I also heard really good things about Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen. (good gameplay/combat) and it's free for ps+ members this month too.

I did hear it starts off slow though, so keep that in mind.

Here's a review from a rpg specific type site.

I might pick up Dead Space. I played the first one but never completed it. Heard the 2nd was even better.

Do you recommend XCOM for someone who typically does not prefer strategy games? Not my cup of tea, but XCOM got great reviews.

I agree with the CH2k8 and MLB 13. I was able to download my 96 Yankees. Pretty awesome experience.
DeadSpace 1 was by far the best in the series, simply for some of the ground breaking gameplay it provided, and the twist on the story (which you should finish!).

I've been greatly enjoying NBA2K13's my career mode. I've played 78 games so far in the season on 10 minute quarters. This is for a guy who isn't into basketball all that much, which speaks very highly for the game. One of the best representations of a sport today, and the MyPlayer/MyCareer allows those not that interested in a team to have fun.

Added 3 more to my que.....like I said...insane amount of games I have yet to play.

                    Dragons Dogma Arisen.
                    Bioshock 2
                    Bioshock Infinite

Picked up all 3 for less than 55 bucks total on Amazon Prime.

Buy Skyrim Legendary Edition and you'll be good for the next year and a half. That's not a joke. I'm not even thinking about next gen until Metal Gear Solid V drops.

I also want to thank the guys for the great suggestions because they helped me out too. There are so many games I haven't even touched on PS3 its really a shame. I haven't made the most of gaming this gen but that's my own fault.

You can put me on the RDR list as well. Never finished it even though I enjoyed every bit of the experience. Luckily I still have the game.

Gotta agree about Skyrim. I have never played an RPG that is so vast and just flat out immersive like Skyrim. You literally are living an alter ego. Everytime I boot up my game.....it takes me only a few minutes to get acclimated again and then off I go adventuring.

I probably will have 300 hours when it is all said and done on my first play-through.

And yes.....I will pop in RDR again as I love....absolutely love the game so far. Once I am done with DS3 back to RDR then:

                        Dishonored
                        Bioshock
                        Bioshock 2
                        Bioshock Infinte
                        Far Cry 3
XCOM Enemy Unknown (90% complete with main storyline so close!)
                        Dragons Dogma
                        Dark Souls
                        Kingdoms of Amular
                        Borderlands 2
                        Batman Arkham Origins
                        Fallout 3 (second play through)
                        GTA V
Mass Effect 2 (second play through)
Mass Effect 3 (second play through)

This gen is by far my favorite ever. Epic games all over the place...and we are not even listing the sports titles which take up 80% of gaming time. That is why it takes me so long to play and yet even finish my non sports games. The Last of Us I played non stop till completion as well as The Walking Dead.....but all the others I take breaks in-between to get back to my sports games which are my true love.

However when I bought Skyrim on release day......it never left my tray for 2 months straight. It is crack.

The newest splinter cell is honestly amazing. I didn't like conviction and all the new crap, but this one so much of the old-school flavour that the new stuff now feels good. For me it was a 9/10 for sure and will go down in my top 10 of this past generation without a doubt.

But more to the point - keeping away from next generation is easy to stay away from. I only want forza 5 and nba 2k even though I already own that one on CG... but it's funny because I was sold on a ps4, but there is literally nothing I want badly enough to do anything hasty.

Overall I'm surprised at how bare both consoles seem, it's the first time in my whole life that I either haven't bought right away or been geeking out and can't stand the wait. This time i'm totally cool not owning one

I know these are both originally ps2 games, but if you have Playstation Plus, Shadow of the Colossus and Ico are both available to download and are quite incredible games.

Went into Gamestop last night when they opened for Black Friday - there was a line, but not terrible. Got in there and they had 6 or 7 Xbox Ones and a dozen PS4s. I didn't even flinch. I have a feeling my mind will change in the spring but for now I am comfortable not making the jump. I stayed in there for about 15 minutes looking around for other games - when I left all but one of the XBOs was sold. At least half of the PS4s were still available.
