Need suggestions to keep me away from Next Gen...

I am looking forward to Next Gen, but I trying to make an educated, unbiased decision on which system to buy this time around. I have no intentions of buying both if I can help it, so I would like to wait until Spring to make the jump. It's been tempting as all h*ll to stay away though.

So I need some ideas from you all of games on the PS3 that can keep me occupied until then.

I have already played the majority of the AAA first and third party titles from this gen.

Played and/or Beaten:
All Naughty Dog Games
All Mass Effects
Bioshock 2 and Infinite
Tomb Raider
Last of Us
All Metal Gears
Infamous 1

Here is an idea of what I have currently:

GTA5 (around 50% complete, but hit a wall with this - getting bored)
NBA 2k13 (decided to keep this one cause i have a lot of rosters)
BF4
Tales of Xilia (Rental)
The Wolf Among Us
Infamous 2
The Walking Dead (waiting for season 2)

I know these threads are not extremely popular, just looking to see if I can find some hidden gems I had not considered before in any genre.

Skyrim - I have sunk 250 hours into this and still have only completed prbably 60% of the game and have not touced any of the DLC yet
Fallout 3 - Immense game, never finished it and will be replaying it,
Dead Space 1,2,3 - played through all 3 once.....will do it again. EPIC.
Red Dead Redemption - On my first playthrough....love it
Borderlands 1 & 2 - finished 1 and have not even touched 2 can't wait to get to it.
College Hoops 2K8 - If you want a deep deep career mode....look no further.
Batman Arkum Asylum, Arkum City
Dragon Age Origins - EPIC
XCOM Enemy Unknown - EPIC
Far Cry 3 - have not even touched this yet
Dark Souls - Will get to this gem soon as well.
Kingdoms of Amular - Still have the shrink wrap on it.
Dead Rising 2 - Still have not gotten to this game
MLB The Show 13 - DL all the amazing classic rosters and this game alone will keep you away from Next Gen.


Pick up all of these....and you will not need to go Next Gen for 2 years.


I know for a fact I will not be going next Gen till MLB The Show 15. I stamped and sealed that to myself. All the games I listed...I am still playing through or have beaten once and will play through again.


I still have not picked up GTA V and I will on the discount bin next year for 20 bucks.

Do you recommend XCOM for someone who typically does not prefer strategy games? Not my cup of tea, but XCOM got great reviews.

I agree with the CH2k8 and MLB 13. I was able to download my 96 Yankees. Pretty awesome experience.

Any of you have a Wii U? Recommend it? I was thinking of a shared experience for the me and the kids. But the lack of 3rd party support, or lack thereof bothers me...

So many reasons to stick with this gen......ton's of titles yet to be played and appreciated.


I got 10 years out of my PS2 and XBOX before I went to PS3....no way I switch just 4 years into my time with PS3....just no way.

Lots of great suggestions here. Xillia caught my eye...if you're into JRPG's I'd definitely recommend Valkyria Chronicles. Tales of Graces F (downloadable on the PSN) and Eternal Sonata are pretty good too.

Second "Red Dead Redemption" if you haven't gone through it.

This is going to be a bit unpopular, but now that the noise/hype has died down, if you like JRPG's I would strongly consider taking the plunge with "Final Fantasy XIII" and the sequel (if you like the first one). I just recently went through these, and I loved them despite all the negativity surrounding the releases. A lot of the criticisms of the game are true (linear, takes forever for the game to open up), but the battle system was a ton of fun (especially later on) and I really liked the story and the way it was like a graphical adventure/movie.

Red Dead Redemption was the best game of this console generation.

Also, if you own a PS3 you owe it to yourself to play Heavy Rain. Very interesting game.

Little Big Planet is also a game you can sink 100+ hours into and not even realize it.

Sam Douglas the detective in Heavy Rain played a bit part as a detective in the 2005 movie Derailed.

I am playing Heavy Rain right now and am hooked.

How does X-Com compare to a game like Advance Wars? I love those on my DS, and have been looking for something similar on the PS3/360.

I'm actually feeling the same right now. I'm tempted but next Gen just doesn't have enough games to justify a purchase. Lets see…….. I would suggest…..

1. The Batman Arkham series- Love the attention to detail and the combat system is AMAZING!!!

2. If you like anime, you cannot go wrong with Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 3. Tons and tons of characters in all of their cell shaded glory (I love cell shaded games!).

3. Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2- Once again, tons of characters and huge open world interactive battle arenas. Oh, and its cell shaded too!!

Ni No Kuni is another JRPG worth checking. Utterly charming little game.
