Re: Fallout 4
Initial non-spoiler impressions...
But let me first say that I'm not far enough in to really give detailed impressions. I explore everything, look in every cabinet, read everything, etc. It took me much longer to get out of the vault than it will take most of you guys. With that being said...
It's Fallout. If you liked Fallout 3 it obviously has a familiar feel. The graphics, as we've seen, will no knock your socks off. I'm sure there will be (and already has been) complaining about how the game looks. It doesn't bother me too much.
Building a settlement seems very overwhelming (in a good way). It seems that there's a million things you can do and there probably is. I'm sure over time we'll all be experts on the matter.
A lot of people (including myself) are upset that when you holster a weapon it just disappears. Not a huge deal and I'd be willing to bet it gets a) modded in or b) patched in. Strange that this would not be included but a lot of people think it's because there are varied body sizes and layered armor so there would probably be a issue with clipping.
I really enjoyed the opening scene and I feel like the voiced character is a nice touch. NPCs seem more animated when you talk to them and more lively.
The weapon mods are like the settlements... soooo many things to do. Which is awesome.
Overall so far it's pretty much what I expected. I'm sure I'll be playing this game for a long, long time.
If you have any particular questions that I can answer feel free to ask me.Comment

Re: Fallout 4
The last guide I bought was for Skyrim. Not buying one ever again. Games are so large and varied and patched. There's no way a guide team can include everything. I found so many inconsistencies and incomplete info. The Web is just 1000x better. It's quicker and to the point. There were a lot of things I'd have to look up online anyway the guide didn't even touch upon.
Anyways for me it's not for the help but for the looks of the book.Joshua:

Re: Fallout 4
It's not going to blow you away (pun intended) graphically. It looks a little better than Skyrim. I played Skyrim on PC and my modded Skyrim looks better than Fallout 4. However, I can only imagine what this game will look like on my PC (when I eventually buy it) with ultra graphics mods and ENBs.
But ultimately, the graphics are definitely passable. If you're looking for the most beautiful game ever, you may be disappointed.Comment

Re: Fallout 4
The good thing is that there's a walking animation that looks good while you're holding a gun. It's difficult to explain but...
When you first draw your weapon you are aiming it (in third person). If you do not hold down L2 (to continue to aim the gun) eventually the PC lowers it. From this point you're holding your gun while walking and moving around casually. It looks really, really good with a two-handed weapon. In fact, it's probably more realistic this way. How often do (or would) people holster a two-handed plasma rifle on their backs? They'd just hold it in front of them. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see holstered weapons and I think a mod (or maybe even an update from Bethesda) will add it. But I've already learned to deal with it. At first it was driving me nuts.Comment

Re: Fallout 4
I watched vids from FO3 and Vegas and it looked like the person was floating over the ground more than moving across it.
I was hoping it would be closer to Mass Effect or GoW with Fallout 4.
If that's the case, I'll be looking to pick this up as soon as I'm done with Mad Max.
Thanks for the impressions Gagnon!Comment
