    OS Retro Gaming Thread

    I hope this one sticks.

I love retro gaming and am hoping some of you on here do. I am going to pick up my small CRT TV from my parents house to go with my Sega Genesis.

I am also going to grab a dreamcast soon because that was my favorite system ever made.

Anybody out there still doing retro gaming? This would be a good place to post your recent (or old) purchases, collections, or info on some of the new retro systems coming out.

Perfect timing. I was selling some older games(mostly N64) on Ebay, and came across my SNES. Super Mario All Stars, Super Return of the Jedi, even Mega Man X. The thing worked after not being used for at least 7-8 years . I forgot how much I loved SMB 3 back in the day.

I think I still have my Genesis, but can't find any of the controls.

Check out eStarland they sell old stuff cheap in a lot of cases. I couldn't play that older stuff anymore. Kept my PS2 as a DVD player but since I don't own a 4X3 tube anymore I can't even look at the stuff on a flat panel at this point. Castle of Illusions is a great game for the Genesis.

If you get a Dreamcast, make sure to grab a VGA box.

About 95% of the games on the system will output at 480p via VGA.

I never did play NHL 2K2, but the original NHL 2K was incredible when it first came out. NHL 2K2 actually ended up being the last official North American game released on the console.

Even though it carried the "2K" brand, NHL 2K was actually made by Black Box. That was the company's very first game, and what a start it was.

Black Box then went on to make NHL Hitz, Sega Soccer Slam, and Skate, which were three more awesome series.

The Dreamcast is my favorite system. I'm going to need to look up a VGA box for mine.

I still break out the XBox once in a while and play NFL2K5 and AllStar Baseball 2005.
                Rarely lately....but still a bit.

I retired my PS2 but I played the heck out of MVP 2005 for years after it came out.

To get really retro I was playing Pirates! and Civ III on an old Mac until 2002.

Still like to play Punch Out, Tecmo Super Bowl, and Contra on the NES.

Found my Sega Genesis years back (2004) and got into a season of NHL 98. That game is still fun.

I got one of those systems that has over 90 games built in and still plays Genesis cartridges last year. I just had to bust out some General Chaos (I loved that game) and Davis Cup Tennis (Still the best tennis game ever).

I am hoping the wife gets me this for Christmas. Would scoop up NHL 94 and few other sports titles for sure.

I've got a few NES games on my 3DS (Virtual Console purchases) like Excitebike, Tecmo Bowl (man, I hope Tecmo Super Bowl is released), Punch-Out! Feat. Mr. Dream (boo to no Tyson, but I know why they changed), Metroid, Super Mario Bros. and Dr. Mario. Right now I've been playing Metroid and man, that game is tough!

My PS2 is still hooked up and I recently started playing Blitz: The League. That game is a lot of fun and there's things in that game that I'd like to see in Madden. I love the team entrance when "the rookie" gets asked to lead the team out onto the field and the rest of the guys just stand back and laugh at him as he yells and dances around. Gets me every time.

I'm also in the market for a GBA SP because there's a lot of games I'd like to re-purchase and play, like Fire Pro Wrestling, Metroid Fusion and a lot of the NES Classics like SMB 3, A Link To The Past, etc.

I pretty much have all the old systems, but the Dreamcast is my fave. Honestly, those games still hold up - Crazy Taxi is still fun to this day, and I don't care what anyone says, I liked their College Football game. And Soul Caliber is still par excellence.

The best is all the odd-ball games the system had, like Jet Grind Radio, Space Channel 5, and Bass Fishing. Honestly, a few buds, a case of beer, and Sega Bass (or Marine) fishing with the fishing rod controller is a night right there...

                            My favorite type of thread!

Most of my retro gaming is done on PC though, since emulators can do a fantastic job of rendering games at a much higher resolution and then downscaling that and making everything look super crisp (especially when it comes to PS2-era graphics.)

Well, my search for a GBA SP has been an exercise in frustration. Boggles my mind how kids/adults treat electronics like junk. Most GBA's have a ton of scratches, including on the screen (this isn't a DS, so why is the screen not spotless?). The ones that are in good condition are priced over $100, which is more than I am willing to pay.

Oh well, probably didn't have time to play those games with my DS/3DS library.
