                                I had always heard that. Then this happened to a friend of mine's ps2 a couple weeks ago, they called Sony, and they wanted $100 to fix it.

                                            actually I had the same problem, if your PS2 is turned horizontal then turn it verticle, thats what i did about two years ago and its still working fine

                                                        I had the same problem. What I did to fix it was, first unscrew the top. Then unscrew the part that covers the disc drive. Get a q tip and some rubbing alcohol and GENTLY clean the laser. Also you'll see a white wheel. Move it three notches clockwise or counter clockwise. It's your choice. The wheel affects how the laser reads your game. I had to move mine about 5 spaces clockwise. Test it to see if it is working. If it's not then spin the dial the other wway. This should fix your problem
