    Xbox High Definition Pack

Question. Are there TWO different High Definition AV packs you can get for the Xbox? I have seen one which has:

    • Red Output
    • Blue Output
    • Green Output
    • Audio Left Output
    • Audio Right Output

Then, I have seen another that has:

    • Red Output
    • Blue Output
    • Green Output
    • Audio Left Output
    • Audio Right Output
    • S Video Output
    • Optical Audio Output

Now, I have an optical audio input jack on the back of my receiver that is currently not being used. I also have the optical audio cable. Should I buy the second AV pack in order to use my optical audio cable and optical port on the receiver? Also, what RGB cables do you recommend to hook it up from the AV pack to the back of the TV?

    Thanks!

There are not two. There is an:

    "Advanced AV pack"

    "HD AV pack"

The latter is the only one that has component.

Vader - If you want to experience true Dolby Digital surround sound then, yes, utilize the optical connections on your reciever. Buy an optical cable and plug it into the receiver then the HD Pack.

Also, if you crave the best picture use the component connections on the rear of your TV. If you have a HDTV then you NEED the components; plug those into the HD pack.

As for cables I will recommend the "Monster" brand but they're expensive and there are plenty of cheaper alternatives out there.

I've heard that the monster AV cables aren't as good as the Microsoft ones, but they should be since they're monster cables! Read reviews about them before you buy since they are around 50 bucks. I think the Microsoft one is 20.

If you already have a monster cable don't waste the 20bucks on these! I did last november, after people said there is a big difference, and there isn't! I couldn't even tell the difference, so save your money!

My thanks to all! It looks like I am going with the HD pack since I have a spare component connection on the back of my Hitachi Widescreen. It will probably stay open until I can get DirecTv HDTV. Thanks to OS too, for having a fun and informative site!
