My PS2, is it dead? I NEED HELP!!!!!

I know this is fairly common but I never seem to read the threads on the type of question i'm asking so I kindly ask for some help or i'm SOL as i'm moving and I don't have the money to replace it (tho if I have to then I will)

Anyways here's the situation. I was playing MVP and as it was loading my PS2 got knocked a bit. I find out later on tonight that the MVP disc has a huge scratch that covers half the disc so I assume that the game is dead. (just when I found a team I was having sucess with!)

The larger problem is this, I was having some DREs before this but nothing a little re-inserting the disc wouldn't solve. Now NOTHING works (well my LOW 2 disc worked for a little bit but conked out then had a DRE) so now I ask can anything be done? I'm guessing it'll take re-aligning the laser and also getting rid of dust/dirt inside.

    Thanks in advance.

one of the other threads on this has a link to techtv that steps you through cleaning it out...that's probably your best bet.

either that, or put it in the dishwasher

Sportsman, you could call Sony and ask them to fix it for you. I've sent my PS2 into Sony before, they do it for free. The only thing you have to do is pay for shipping which for me was around $6. It's in Aurora or something, about two hours away from Toronto so it takes about 1-2 weeks for it to return. They fixed my PS2 and it is as good as new.
