    Struggling with XBox Purchase

I'm not looking to be talked into an XBox. I know you guys well enough to expect most of you feel its the best thing since girls. However, I do wonder if anyone else is at the decision I am...

I've owned my PS2 since release and have never regretted the decision to buy it. Its seen so much use over the last several years that the laser has started to malfunction and needs replacement. To add to this the announcement that Sega/VC's new sports titles will need the PS2 HDD to unlock their full potential ads to the expense again.

This should be a no brainer; $150 for the XBox versus $160 for replacement laser, HDD, and game I don't want for the PS2. However, with the new console generation beginning in less than two years I'm struggling with spending the cash.

Anyone else in the same perdicament?

I understand exactly. It's a good point about the next consoles out soon, or not too far into the future anyway.

However if you are a sports gamer and like the new revisions each year then it might be tough to sit there and miss out on ESPN NFL Xbox/Madden and maybe NBA Live and ESPN if they turn out good.

If you like other types of games then I'd say get an XBox now. If you've only played PS2 games over the years then you'll get months and months of fun out of even the oldest Xbox games (which are much cheaper these days). There are a few good recent releases too and quite a few coming later this year.

Then again if you want Metal Gear Solid 3 and the next GTA first, then maybe a new PS2 is needed

    Good luck and have fun!!

2 years approximation is alot of time.

          730 days ( 2 years)

          150 bucks /730 days =~ 20 cents a day

SO you are basically paying 20 cents a day for your console; or 6 bucks a month
i know this is a silly computation, but pretty interesting nonetheless

of course this doesnt include games and such, but you dont necessarily need to just get rid of the machine once the new consoles are released. The longevity of a console depends on the enjoyment you get out of it. People still have NES's which are used.

I didnt think i would have as much fun with the xbox when i traded in my ps2 last year for it. I am glad i was wrong. I feel i have gotten my money's worth and then some. That said, it all comes down to which one you feel you will get the most value from; perhaps you just need to replace the ps2 with a new one and you will be fine?

either way, both machines have pluses.

I'm keeping my ps2 because there are a ton of games that are/will be dirt cheap that I still haven't played.

i have both - actually had to re-purchase the ps2.. both are great.. the advantages of the xbox imo are the fact it has the hard drive, which cuts down greatly the need to purchase new memory cards, as well as having sharper graphics.. but again, i am glad that i picked up the ps2 again, so the debate continues..

hey!!! whatever you do you better do i quick with a ps2. that is if you plan to turn it in for credit, because you know that after e3 sony will probably drop the price of ps2's so you might lose money. if you primarily play sports than you know that getting an x-box is a no- brainer. if any of your friends have as ps2 borrow theirs for those games that you desperately need to play.
