Anyone still playing Final Fantasy XI?

I got a few questions for you.

Alright, I've basically put maybe 6 hours into the game so far. I'm a lvl 6 Monk and yada, yada. What I want to know what is a good way to make any money in this game? I mean, I'm dead broke half the time with no more than 300-500 gil in my pockets. I go to the auction house only to find that everything, including health potions will cost me thousands of dollars.

Should I join a guild and just start creating stuff and selling it? Thing is with that, I joined the leathermans guild and now that I've got a few recipes, I need to actually spend money getting the ingredients. But of course, this is all part of the wonderful world of MMORPGs. You have to spend money to make money. Anyway, what are some good things I can do to make money? Cause my armor is cheap, I need some bling bling and I'm tired of getting my [censored] handed to me by a wild sheep.

Also, about how long before I actually need to party up and go on bigger quest. Right now, my quest seems like I can do for the most part myself. But if I wanted to, I can party up to make these quest a lil more easier? I donno? For example, one quest is to get a Orc axe but I've beaten a few Orcs and they never give me an axe. I also need some sheep skin but sometimes those pesky sheep beat my [censored]. Is it ok to form a small 2-3 man party just to help me out or should I just go at it alone till more bigger and badder quest come up?

    Help a noob out.

Just lvl up to around 13 first and depending on which nation you're aligned with start crafting. If you're in Windurst there is lots of money to be made off crawlers there.

that should help you get started, tons of info thats easier than having anyone on here try and explain it to you. Money is hard to come by in terms of time. I wouldnt bother crafting till you level into your 20's or even your 30's.

for now id say your best bet is to collect stacks (of 12) of crystals and other items off the monsters you kill and put them up for auction and wait till they sell. Make sure you have signet cast on you from the guards of your home city so that the monsters you fight drop some crystals.

as for grouping head on over to valkrum dunes at about level 10 and find full 6 person parties. Before level 10 i would suggest you go solo or find one or two other players to spead up you attacks. groups of more than 2 or 3 before ten wont give you as much experience.

          hope this helps.
