Will there be any story involvement for Predator or Jason??? It would be nice to incorporate a narrative for how these characters became part of the Mk universe.

Comboing in this game is actually really easy as long as you remember that it's different from Street Fighter. Each character has defined strings of normal moves that come out when you press them in sequence. What makes it so much easier is that you really don't have to worry about the timing too much - it's pretty much impossible to press the buttons too early. Each move cancels into the next move automatically, as long as you hit all the buttons in sequence. In SF there had to be a rhythm and timing to your combos, and that's not really the case here.

The thing I'm working on right now is a really good example. Liu Kang has a combo in his Flame Fist variation that looks like this: Back 3, 4, 2 . It's a series of three roundhouse kicks with a step-in forearm at the end. I can input the first two parts of that combo very quickly, almost as though it's one move, and the actual on-screen output will lag far behind that. Here's the fun part - the last hit, 2, has an input window you can drive a truck through, 50 frames - I can hit that button basically anytime until the last kick connects to get the combo finisher.

What does that mean in gameplay? Well, when I can see that I've hit the opponent with the first kick, then I can throw out a different move than the normal finisher for some extra damage. So after the first two inputs, if I start seeing blood fly out then I input Forward, Back, Forward, 4 for Liu's Windmill Punch, which adds a ton more damage than the normal finisher (and it gets ludicrous if I have the Shaolin Flame Buff with all those punches, around 31% for a very quick combo sequence).

So what if the first three kicks get blocked? Remember that input window for 2? Here's where it comes into play. Once I know that I'm being blocked I finish off the combo with that button instead of the special. Because of how late I can press that button I'll have plenty of time to tell the hits aren't getting through. That finisher is -5 frames when it's blocked - which means the opponent gets a slight advantage and can hit me before I throw up the block. BUT...that finisher also puts some distance between me and the opponent which kind of negates that frame difference.

EVERY Character will have opportunities like this - that's just basic hit-confirming stuff. I kind of don't want to get sucked into Liu so much that I can't try out some of the others, but I'm just not where I want to be on my main yet.

Lui has some pretty good ones. If only I could connect them consistently online.

I played through the traditional tower with Sub last night. Picked up his 242 into slide combo pretty quickly.

The gameplay is so tight even a simple practice round to discover useful combos is fun.

I think I'm too old for this. I probably could have pulled that off 20 years ago.

I've done better performing combos once I turned off Release Check.

That's a really helpful video, thanks for posting. I was running on default settings this whole time so I'm going to change those settings and hopefully see a lot more success on combos I've been trying to master.

I knew about the Release Check/Negative Edge option, but I didn't know it was affecting combo execution. But, knowing that now, that may be why I tend to drop the windmill punch combo finisher surprisingly often.

I'll have to try turning it off for a bit and see if it's any better.

Medium is pretty easy after playing a while except for corrupt shinnok. I have problems with him and so much damage.

I tried hard a few times and find it as much if not more of challenging (haven't won a cpu round or get cpu less than half life ) than online. And I'm 0-14 online so take with a grain of salt lol

Medium is doable and the story is pretty damn good. I've only played one fight on Hard, but there's a considerable difference in difficulty and I believe there is an additional level above Hard.

If you are connected to the internet, but want to keep to the single player features there are living towers which update hourly, daily, and weekly. Towers provide a set of fights with some featuring additional objectives to gain more experience and koins.

Then there is the krypt which is probably the most fleshed out extra-content unlock system I've ever experienced.

Yeah I'd agree with that. I can 0-loss Medium towers pretty regularly - it really only takes a basic knowledge of your characters moves to win. Hard will test your blocking and your execution - I'm finding it to be the best level for me to practice at.

Very Hard, as far as I can tell, reads inputs and is kind of bull**** (being an MK game, this is nothing new...lol). It's pretty good for learning advanced juggle combos though in practice as the CPU will just pummel you to death with them.

Medium is pretty easy. It's a good way to learn the different fighters and get a basic understanding of learning when to throw out moves and blocking.

Hard really forces you to learn strings of combos for big damage. It's doable with practice.

Very hard is like the original trilogy. Opponents have a sixth sense and seem to be able to read and block just about everything. Best advice is to learn when to be aggressive and when to sit back and k is the strength and weaknesses of your character.
