Was the best new IP that I seen at E3 so far this year, but I really need to wait to see some gameplay from this since the cg looked great.

This game might be closer than we think. It's already playable but we can't see it yet.

Spencer Talks About Xbox One Exclusive Scalebound Playable Build, More JRPGs for Xbox, GamesCom and More
            By Sehran Shaikh

Scalebound from Platinum Games as Xbox One exclusive was the surprising announcement that came out from Microsoft's E3 2014 presser, but apart from a Cinematic trailer we saw nothing, no real-gameplay or some word on game's storyline, characters. Phil Spencer, Xbox Division boss has just confirmed via Twitter that Scalebound playbable build is already available internally and there's no ETA when it will be shown to general public.

"Don’t have the next PR event set, working on the game, we are playing the game but I’m not sure when we’ll show playable or talk story."

Phil Spencer also revealed that he is still interested in more JRPGs for Xbox platform and admitted that Microsoft didn't have expected success on Xbox 360, might be due to the fact that they didn't try to push them enough.

"Yea, we haven’t had huge success on XBOX with JRPGs but we probably haven’t tried enough."

Additionally, Spencer confirmed that all Xbox One games that Microsoft will showcase at Tokyo Game Show will "almost certainly" arrive in Western region as well.

"Don't have the lineup set but I'd say the answer is almost certainly yes."

Regarding preparation for GamesCom 2014, Spencer replied that the actual plan isn't ready yet but work on it will begin soon infact very soon.

So there you have it folks, Phil Spencer addresses all issues related to Platinum Games' Scalebound, a playable build are available internally its just that Microsoft is awaiting for the right time to talk about it.

Same. Still looking for that game that gets me to buy an XBoxOne (it will happen eventually). Almost bought for Rise, but then saw the reviews. This game definitely looks interesting from the CGI, but still need to see gameplay.

Not hyped about this game since there's no gameplay shown anywhere... but Kamiya is pretty damn cool, so I'll start looking forward to this once we get to see some more.

                        Re: Scalebound

This is how Scalebound fills the open-world RPG gap in the Xbox One's first-party lineup

Platinum Games are known for titles like Metal Gear Rising and Bayonetta, which set most of my assumptions last year. The rep from Platinum Games was keen to point out that Scalebound represents something different for the studio, and really emphasised that it was thanks to Microsoft that the team has been able to "go to the next level."

After a guided tour of the Xbox briefing video, we were treated to a show-reel of other Scalebound features that are still in development. Scalebound isn't just a hack n' slash; it's a full-blown action RPG with an inventory, loot, non-linear exploration, NPC cities, weapon durability, currency, in-game economies and more.
The first part of the show-reel discussed dragon customization. Thuban is heavily customizable. You can swap his default model out for others, or just customise his skin. We saw a tiger patterned Thuban, along with other dragon types entirely. You can also give Thuban armor. We were told that the more armor he has, the more defensive he can be - at the cost of speed. You don't need to deck him out in a full set either. Armor is modular, and it all factors into how he works in combat. Platinum is also going to let you customize his breath element; we saw one Thuban spraying a blizzard of ice on his foes.

After that, Platinum showed us some more of the game's locations, emphasising exploration and dungeon crawling. Scalebound takes place in a non-linear world, as you'd usually hope from an RPG. After Drew had defeated the mantis monster in the trailer above, he reduced the corpse into gems - these serve as the game's currency. You can spend them on a vast array of upgrades for yourself and Thuban, adding power to attacks, or enhancing specific stats and so on. That "a-ha" moment landed when Platinum showed Drew traversing an NPC city populated by humanoids in tribal gear.
                        IGN

“Scalebound is Platinum’s first action RPG,” says Scalebound’s Creative Producer Jean Paul Pierre Kellams, “so we’re making a game that brings all of our core competencies in action gameplay to the RPG genre and placing it in a very large non-linear world.”
With headphones slung around his neck and an outfit that wouldn’t look out of place in modern day Tokyo, pretty-boy Drew stands out like a sore thumb in the enormous, fantastical world Platinum is calling ‘Draconis.’

“I didn’t want it to be this typical, expected fantasy world,” says Kamiya, “so to put a twist to that, this human, Drew, comes from our modern world, which would allow us to tell a story that has maybe not been told before, but yet is still believable.”
“You will eventually be able to ride Thuban,” explains Kamiya, “but maybe in the beginning, in the earlier stages, your understanding of each other is not enough to allow Drew to ride him.”

As the story progresses, joint attacks will also open up, or in-game actions with a little more meaning: Thuban might have more of an interest in saving a flailing Drew as he topples off a cliff, for example, or be more inclined to lend him a helping tail to reach a high ledge.
A lighter Thuban with a spear-like weapon attached to his tail will make for a faster, offensive character, while an armoured Thuban with a weighted weapon on his tail will be a better damage-sponge. “There’s always going to be that kind of risk/reward balance,” explains Miyata. “How do I want my dragon to behave and will this be advantageous for me for the next battle? You’ve got to look at each situation that you’re in and assess.”

Definitely interested in Scalebound and im surprised by the Holiday 2016 release date as I was expecting it earlier. I do wish they alter the lead character. I don't like his humor, the fact that he's wearing what appears to be a 'beats" headset and the music doesn't fit in with the game. Also, games looks more like Xenoblade than Witcher/Dragon Age. With that said, im still looking forward to seeing how this game progresses over the next 15 months.

                            Re: Scalebound

IGN - Dragon customization, skill points, and more

Platinum is promising that the island of Draconis will be full of “tons of combat and exploration.” “Non-linear” is the term being used in place of “open-world” - Draconis is not a sandbox - though protagonist Drew and his dragon companion Thuban will need to continually upskill in order to traverse its vast terrain.
The enemies Drew and Thuban face off against in Draconis will not scale up alongside Drew. The player should be allowed a sense of victory, says Kamiya, so returning to areas as a stronger team is rewarded. “If you scale up… you don’t get that opportunity to reward the player in terms of, ‘oh my gosh, I got to this point and was able to defeat this enemy in one attack or one blow.’ So, I want the players to have that kind of experience, where it's like, you know how hard you worked, and this is kind of a big payoff for you.”

But to add a little more vibrancy to the world of Draconis, enemies won’t always behave in the same way. Weak points might be in a different location on a giant mantis you’d previously battled, for example, or an entirely different creature might be there in its place. “There’s a discovery element to it,” says Kamiya. “Even though you think you know it all, you don't. We’re really challenging the player to figure things out.”
“Even though I know we've been emphasising that this is an action RPG, because I need to get that message across - I hope you agree that we know how to make action games. We know how the responsiveness of a move is what really differentiates our games from other action games. That's what's so special about our games, whether it's Bayonetta or my previous title Devil May Cry. So one thing that's not going to change is that how great it feels when Drew is in battle. You're not going to feel like it's worse than what we've done before. The sort of intuitiveness and the response to the action that Drew is taking? That will remain at the quality that’s always defined our action games.”
