Bloodborne Hands-On: We Were Punished and We Liked It - IGN First
Like the Souls games, any unspent currency you have on your when you die is dropped in the area of your demise. Also like its three predecessors, dying before you can retrieve your loot means that it’s lost forever. However, instead of being placed on the ground at the scene of your murder, your Blood is actually transfused into a nearby enemy; you’ll know which one by the striking glow emanating from their eyes. In order to get back what was once yours, you need hunt and slay the glowy-eyed menace, but it’s the act of hunting and slaying where Bloodborne feels like a much different beast than the games before it.You’re not going to survive by being passive in Bloodborne. You can’t pop in, draw a single enemy back, and take your sweet time with them. Instead, prepare to dive head-first into an encounter and get a bit messy. The same flow of “observe, dodge, react” exists here, but the cycle rolls much faster than before. You have to soak in all the details of an encounter at a moment’s notice, and decide on how to use your arsenal almost instantly. When an enemy is winding up for a strong attack, pull out your gun for a quick stagger. If you see that you only have a short window to strike, perform a quick slice with your blade before rolling out of the way. If a group of enemies is advancing on you, transform your weapon into a larger, slower, but much wider-ranged instrument of death, and do a bit of crowd control.Winding my way through the alleys of Yharnam brought back feelings of the first time I stepped foot into Dark Souls’ Undead Burg back in 2012. This time around, the city itself exudes much more character. The streets are littered with breakable objects, many of which hold hidden items, deadly enemies, or convenient shortcuts. Yharnam is also packed with townsfolk to interact with, though each of the ones I stumbled across were holed up inside of their homes, hiding from the beasts that roam the streets. By speaking with them through windows, they helped me gain bits of insight into the events unfolding around me.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Bloodborne
A video preview of the character creation is up on IGN!
LINK (not sure how to embed video)
Big changes to character creator this time around include more models for both male and female characters (check out those sweet Victorian coats), the ability to give your character some glasses and make a frighteningly-close Harry Potter hunter (see the video), and a bunch of options for different voices of both genders.Comment

Re: Bloodborne
God I can't wait for this. DSII was my first REAL DS experience. I never beat it, but I spent a lot of time with it. I played Demon's Souls and DSI sparingly, but never could get over the difficulty. With DSII, I actually spent the time to learn the mechanics and everything clicked after a while. Such a rewarding game.
With Bloodborne, I plan on REALLY diving into the game. Myself and my friends at work are all getting it, so it'll be fun to see how far we can all get. I'm curious to see how co-op will work in this one, or PvP for that matter.Comment

Re: Bloodborne
This game and MK X will make my gaming year in 2015. Thank God they're coming out in a month or two and not in Oct/Nov like marquee titles typically do.Comment

Re: Bloodborne
Super pumped for this, can't wait to play.
One of the biggest things that drew me in is the aesthetic of the world and the setting...can't lie, part of me wishes it was coming out in October as it would be a bad *** Halloween game lol.Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

Re: Bloodborne
I never understood From Software's stance on PvP.
I can't speak much for Demon Souls since I didn't play it until years after it's release, but in Dark Souls 1 and 2, you either get the capability to steadily invade others towards the end of the game, and while I understand it's to keep the focus on the game, there's nothing wrong with taking to online and doing a few rounds.
Such that, especially so in Demon Souls, the final areas of the game was swamped with invasions which actually inhibited progress because you were unable to close out the game without being invaded (at times).
I'd love to see it be more prevalent. I really do like in general how the PvP is in these games, but I'd like the option to be available sooner, rather than later.
Spoiler
Just in case this needs to be spoiler tagged, I know you can find Cracked Red Soul orbs throughout the game but those are single use and with the sketchy internet connection from the previous games, were borderline worthless because a disconnection typically costed you the rare item.Bulls|Bears|Cubs| Blackhawks|Huskies|Horned Frogs|
