Just messing around to start. Are you guys starting your cities by rivers? Fiddling around with sewage and my peeps aren't too happy with me.

Man this is killing me being at work.

I plan to start one near some water but not real close to central of city.
Just make sure you watch and pay attention to the direction the water flows (for sewage etc.. concerns..)

          Re: Cities: Skylines

I was impatient and tired tonight, just couldn't get into it. Feel too much like I have to min/max everything, optimize layout, etc. End up with one crazy street and then go back into squares mode, lol.

For some reason the game really chugged at 2560x1440, so had to drop it down to 1920x1080 and windows and it ran a bit better. Will have to look into that some more.

UI is a bit frustrating to me, and streets are so finnicky, lol. Love everything so far for the most part though, just need to hop in when I've got time to really enjoy it.

            Re: Cities: Skylines

Main gripe I'm seeing in early reviews are issues with traffic not flowing properly (lanes not being used, which kind of spirals into slow service response time, like police and fire response). Can anyone comment on that?

So much good I'm hearing come out of the early reviews, that that's the only negative I've seen, really.

I've seen it in streams, but haven't created similar situations in the time I've played.

I honestly didn't see a lot of issues watching the TY vids... but did see some (quil18 etc..)
The main issues I seen were when you laid down the wrong type or I should say types that didn't work as well as some you should have used.
Left turn only lanes vs 1 ways etc...

Also have to see who/what are using the roads and possibly have different routes for them to option to use.

Can also (once you delegate areas) have restrictions like no heavy trucks etc..

With that said there were times the traffic seemed to not flow like it should...

Guess we'll have to see but just from what I've seen.. when you do get issues there's ways to fix it. Really can't wait to see what crap I create lol...
One thing I've learned is One Way roads are your friends...

I don't have to work OT now so once I get home I'm digging right into it.. until I fall asleep..

Looking at the workshop there's already over 400 buildings and over 400 intersections etc...

As far as mods there's already one that makes all spaces unlockable
Still have to buy them but instead of the (Was is 6??) space limit you can keep purchasing all of them.

After just one day of play (with the devs promising constant updates plus steam workshop support) this is the SimCity killer. About time honestly. A great dev and with mod support I can see myself dumping tons of hours into this.

I think that has already been tweaked/fixed from the review copy to release copy.

but I haven't got to the point where that would be an issue in my city yet though.
I had initial traffic at the starting highway input, but that was due to a temporary exit ramp right at the beginning that everyone wanted to take and caused a backup, wasn't due to the lane issues.
I've been using a lot of 1 way roads, seems to be working so far.

The city I have does not have bad traffic at all, I did learn a few lessons in good road building from SC13. I do think though I am going to start a new city pretty soon, I do not love the layout I created. I took today off to play all day but o think I'm going to take a lunch break and rethink how I want to lay out my city.

Haven't played a city building game since SC4, but I picked this up off of Steam last night and enjoyed playing it for a couple hours. I'm trying to learn a few things but overall this game is really smooth and challenging at the same time. I really need to do a better job of planning my city in the future.

One thing I can't quite wrap my head around is the districts. How exactly do those work? I'd like to set up some farming areas in the outskirts, but I have no idea how to do that.

It takes awhile to unlock the farming industry specialization in the district menu, but once you do just create a section of industry, create a district around it, specialize in farming, mining, drilling, or forestation and it will only spawn that type of industry.

I'm hoping that the devs will add a night cycle. Would love to see my city at night.

Seasons would be another feature I want in future updates.
