    The Sims 4

Can't believe we don't have a thread for this. Has anyone played it? I was on the fence but the initial word is not very good.

It's getting hammered on Metacritic, just read a quick review that pretty much said it was a step back from The Sims 3. Sounds like a real flop.

Everything I have seen and read has made it look like it took 2 steps forward and 100 back. No pools, no toddlers, basic jobs, basic activities, etc. I know it's of the Sims nature to have the first of the new generation be pretty watered down, but not to the extent that 4 is. Create a Sim is improved, but customizing their outfits and such is a lot worse. No more personal styles and editing items in game.

It seems that EA has a new target award:

      "Worst company of the century".
The content provided with this $60 game is worse than a demo. They'll just force their victims..sorry... customers to buy dozens of daily, weekly and monthly DLC's.

Update: Just saw that player editing is out of their NHL title... WTF.

Enough with EA being the worst company, no entertainment company is even close to the real bad companies. You have the option of not buying The Sims 4(I'm certainly not buying), it's that simple choice which doesn't make them evil. I could list dozens of companies that make your life hell and I bet EA isn't one of them.

Ofc I have the option of not buying but I also have the right to post my opinion about a company which annually downgrades all their products just to milk the customers with real money microtransactions and non-stop DLC's.
And I'm talking about videogaming specifically. If you want to take this to another level including other companies I'm with you.

After what they did with Sim City, and then not allowing review copies for Sims 4 it will be awhile before I look at this game. It's a shame because I really like sims 3 when it 1st came out and was really looking forward this.

Plus Madden, Destiny, Fifa, Shadow of mordor, WWE mean my plate is full

I picked it up, mostly because I was able to get it half off with promotional codes/discounts. Haven't put too much time into it though. I own all the other base games, for some, I own a few expansions. Sims 2 I own all of them due to EA making the sims 2 Ultimate Edition free for the Sims anniversary.

basically this. There are some nice things about the game, but it's over shadowed by all the missing things that you are used to in a base Sims game.

Best things so far in my very limited time with it. Create-a-Sim and Build/Buy mode mechanics are really great. Content is low, although probably more than other sims base games. no Create-a-Style to customize is a downer, but they do give multiple varieties for each item, much more than what was in Sims 3(although they didn't need too with sims 3 as it had Create-a-style).

Also, Sims 4 runs much, much smoother than sims 3 ever did. I have an i7-4770K overclocked with an AMD Radeon R9 290(OC by ASUS), and the sims 3 ran like crap. sims 4 doesn't have an open world like sims 3 though. The loading screens are very short with my PC though, so it's not much of an issue to me(would be faster if I had the game installed on my SSD instead of my secondary HDD where all my games are). and you can still walk around and explorer in the neighborhood your currently in.

not sure if it would be worth the full price as it is. I probably wouldn't have gotten it if I didn't get it half off.

Watched some streams of people playing this last night. Looks extremely basic. I am going to wait until all the expansions and stuff come out for it.

Anyone used the System Requirements Lab desktop app? I'd like to see if my laptop can run this, as the wife loves all of the Sims games. The regular auto detection keeps telling me that Java needs to be updated, so I update it, and it tells me that it still needs to be updated. Getting sick of installing the update and having it not take effect.

Just curious as to whether or not the desktop app is safe.

It's safe. Oh and far as Java not installing correctly, for me anyway I learned it is best to update Java through Internet Explorer. Every time I try to do Java update through Chrome it never installs.

Thanks man. I'll give IE a shot and see if it works.

                        Re: The Sims 4

Seeing all the stuff they took out last month killed any anticipation I had. The fact that it's a step back from 3 which I still found worse than 2 in a lot of ways is not good. I was actually okay with them doing away with the open world because it caused a lot of annoying problems for me. Everything else, not so much. If they had made it so you could designate some families to not do more than basic functions while you're not playing in the open world, I would have enjoyed 3 a lot more.

Shame that they screwed this franchise up now too. EA needs to get better with their PC games. Besides FIFA, I don't know the last one I've been all that happy with. SimCity, this, The Sims 3 and the whole Command and Conquer Generals 2 debacle have made a terrible impression as of late.

After Bustin' Out, I lost all interest in the Sims. Miss that game.
