Re: What do yall think of Killzone?

It is definately not a Halo killer that is for sure. It is the most fun Ive had with a FPS on the PS2 though, so it could be good for the system. There are a lot of graphical bugs currently, and a lot of long waits between respawns (with just a black screen).

The targeting needs some major work, and the sniper rifle, my god, it is awesome. It is hard as hell to get lined up, but when you do SWEET satisfaction.

I am disappointed at not being able to kill someone point blank opening round after round into them, only to be taken out by a single shot from a room away. Its either the fact that the targeting isnt refined yet, or there are some major issues with the trajectory of the bullets.

the developers made a post about that saying that it has to do with the servers and certain clients.... I have a feeling it will be fixed by the game being shipped out.

Not a lot. I know Ben Duncan, one of the producers, and he is a pr*ck. Don't buy it; his ego is big enough allready.

I played the demo at E3 and wasn't particularly impressed. Now, it could end up being drastically improved before launch, but I'm not holding my breath. Killzone seems like a game that will be incapable of escaping it's own hype. OPM and EGM were hyping it up late 2003-early 2004, but since E3, it hasn't been getting much attention (surprise?). It took Guerilla several months to secure a publisher for it (Sony), and that was well after the hype machine was full speed ahead. I wonder how many other publishers passed on it before Sony took the bait?

It is going to sell like crazy because the PS2 is lacking any real decent FPS, especially online (if you don't count SOCOM). It may just end up being the best FPS on the PS2, but that isn't saying much when you compare it to the million other FPSs out on the market.

I don't like the look of the game much, but Sony have always been on side with this game. Ben Duncan is the main producer and he's been an employee of Sony's since he graduated a few years ago. Mind you, i'm not suprised that there's false information out there cause Sony are very cagey about their operations and Ben is very close guarded about everything to do with his work even to his best friends.

It's also untrue that this game is a completely Dutch product. This has always been Bens baby and he's 100% English and 100% Sony.

Ah; just realised why you got confused. Guerilla signed a deal with Sony in April this year, but it has nothing to do with Killzone. That game has always been Sony/Guerilla. It's a deal tying them to Sony for future developement and PS2 exclusivity.

Yeah, I did some research and I discovered you were right, I was wrong , looks like Sony has been on this one from the start. I remember reading an article from last year that said Guerilla was still looking for a publisher, but that must have been for another game they are working on (Shellshock maybe?). Anyway, doesn't really change my opinion on the game, unless they've made some dramatic improvements to it, it will end up being just another FPS IMO.

Hey. No worries. Glad to be of assistance. Ben first told me about the game over a year ago, and I've always had the same impression as you. It always sounded like just another FPS to me too. I know Ben well and to be honest, I don't get on that well with him, and also don't think a lot of his taste in video games.

For example, he believes that the N64 version of Mario Kart was better than the Super Nintendo version which coming from a games developer in his mid 20's is quite worrying. He also doesn't have an xbox with Halo on it at home either, which I find weird for someone trying to develop a "Halo beater". He even asked me once why I bothered buying an xbox????
