    Re: Warhammer : Total War

New lord pack drops on thuraday. Features a dark elf possessed by a demon and the other is a skaven assassin.

Looking forward to it. Especially the dark wlf. He has a mechanic where the more the demon possesses him, the more powerful he becomes on the battlefield (campaign negatives offset this bonus)

So I started a new campaign. A few days ago. I decided to go with the High Elf Allerial.

Overall she had been a pretty weak lord. I usually find that spellcasters are, but she seems particularly bad at combat. She makes up for it with other bonuses though.

Specifically Sistera of Avelorn. They absolutely shred things with their very long bows and even if they get caught in melee they are decent fighters.
My main army right now is
    Alerielle
    Handmaiden
    Noble
    5 Lothern Seaguard Shields (LSG)
    5 Sisters of Avelorn (SoA)
    3 spearman
    1 star dragon
    1 elyrium reaver
    1 tree kin
    1 dryads

I have been having a lot of success with this army and it is pretty easy to play because of the range and layers of defense.

    My basice formation is
    Spears
    LSG
    SoA

Reavers and dryads hidden in Vanguard deployment go the side of the map. Treekin in the rear with my 3 lord/heroes mixed in the middle and dragon off to the side.

Basic strategy is keep the cheap spearman in front to soak up as many advancing units as possible while my combined sea guard and sisters rain down arrows on everyone. At that point I send in the cavalry to hit any artillery or further back archers, keeping them occupied, and send in my dryads to hit the enemy flank to buy more time for my archers. My spearman almost always end up routing, but by the time they do, I have already racked up hundreds of kills with my archers and my LSG are still fresh at this point to hit up all of the weakened units and the SoA are still firing off shots until they run out of ammo and become solid flanking melee options .
Dragon and lords roam around as needed

This group of units is really strong versus cavalry, almost everyone has a high charge defence, it decimates anti infantry armys who lack shields to protect against the arrow volleys, and it's even pretty good against monster armys with all of the spear units. It is weak against heavy artillery though. My formation ends up being very tight to take advantage of the archers and a few long range artillery can do a lot of damage before I make it up to engage the enemy. So far that has been the only thing to give me trouble though. Fortunately the more artillery they have, the less infantry they have. So any losses I take are nearly made up foe with fewer infantry stacks to deal with
