How long does/should an Xbox controller last?

I have Controller S's and they are both about 1.5 years old and going on me. The buttons don't respond when playing ESPN NFL and I can't get a pass off sometimes. Looks like I'll be heading to Best Buy tonight...

    have you ever cleaned them?

I use lighter fluid and a paper towel to reall get down in the cracks of the joysticks and the buttons.

You can always unscrew the controller and take it apart to clean it better. If you screw it up, then you can always go buy another one like you're planning on doing.

I don't know how long I've had mine, most likely about the same as you or longer. And it's fine so far. After a few cleanings.

Most important thing, from now on, is to make sure your hands are fresh and clean before you play.

How hard do you pound the buttons too? Me and my brother each had our own controllers and I pounded my buttons alot harder than him so I had to buy a new one and he still has his and the buttons have a lot of spring in them.

Hmm, that's kinda weird. I've had my controllers since the launch and I've never had a problem, and my buddy has 2 launch controller, and the only reason one of them doesn't work was cause he spilled pop on it. Maybe the mammoth controllers last longer than the controller-s's.

They aren't hard to open and clean. I do it all the time when buttons start to stick or just stop working.

Never really thought about opening them and cleaning them. Good stuff.
