I guess, based on what I am reading, the game doesn't release/unlock on Steam until 10 am PST?

For whatever reason, despite saying I would buy day one, I'm hesitant. I didn't like "Everybody's Gone to the Rapture."

Not a fan of game's simply telling me things. And I get the feeling this game is, at the core, a narrative game.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I enjoyed Gone Home on sale, but I personally can't spend like 20 bucks on 4 hour games anymore...

I'd love to play through this eventually, but just not much value yet IMO. For me, a guy with a family who has to be more budget conscious now.

                  Re: Firewatch

Bought and finished the game today and it took a little over 3 hours. The game was good but not great so I would wait for a price drop which does pain me to say because I do like supporting indie developers. The graphics were really nice and the photo mode was a cool addition. The story was intriguing but like most other games and movies the ending just didn't satisfy. The voice actors did a good job but I did recognize the main voice actor and kept visualizing him in his suit from Madmen so that took me out of the experience a little.

I did experience a couple of bugs on the PC. If you read a document make sure you close the overlay before opening or picking up anything or the overlay will remain on the screen with the text which also prohibits you from quitting the game. There were also a couple of times that I got stuck in the environment but luckily after a minute or so I wiggled my way out.

I figure if I'm ok spending $60 on a 10-12 hour game, then $20 on a four hour game still mathematically and financially makes sense. Plus, if it's a great experience, length doesn't always matter.

                    .... That's what she said.

                        Re: Firewatch

I've played the game for about 2 hours and 45 minutes. I just now finished with the first day, just got back to base camp after setting out for the first time. I don't know how many days there are (days seem to act as "chapters" or "missions" in other games) but hard for me to see me not at least tripling that time before the end of the game.

I'll admit that I am playing "slow" maybe a little intentionally, but not needlessly. I'm examining every nook and cranny and really taking my time, I explored as much of the map as I could on my first day out and double backed a couple times to make sure I caught everything. It paid off as on my second combing over of a couple spots I found two things I had missed the first time.

I'm very much enjoying this game. I've avoided all spoilers and will continue to do so until I finish. I have no idea what is really going on or what's going to happen but I have a couple things I'm looking out for, don't have enough info yet to establish theories. The books I've found so far and examined, at least the ones that have summaries on the back of them, sure seem interesting.

I'm a guy who really likes to take my time and "absorb," and this is a perfect kind of game for me

After hearing the linearity I ended up just requesting a refund from Steam. I'll just watch some youtube videos. Without branching story lines there are just too many other good games out right now for me to justify playing a graphic novel with my limited gaming time.

I didn't like that game either. Firewatch seems like it should be a bit more interesting, though. I'll grab it at some point.

I was all in day one, until I read about all the performance issues with the PS4 version. I'll wait for a patch and price drop down the road.
