Nintendo too good for 3rd part support (and rant)

I have no idea why Nintendo doesn't embrace 3rd party support. IGN had an interview with a higher up in Nintendo America about a year ago (believe she was a female that started with the letter P) and said they were working hard on 3rd party support and mature games and realized how important it was to have it. Well one year later things are worse with Acclaim and Midway (only bringing Midway Arcade Treasures 2 and Mortal Kombat which will come out 4/5 months later than Xbox and PS2 version) dropping support and virtually no Mature games coming soon.

Just like the rest of the letters from the N-Query even the diehard fans are getting frustarted.

I bought the GameCube at launch but I realized it had terrible 3rd party support for sport games so I traded it in for an Xbox and haven't looked back. A part of me wants to see Nintendo succeed because I grew up on Nintendo but they refuse to adapt to the current market. They can deny it all they want but the majority of consumers would rather have online gaming than GBA-GC connect feature like getting extra Madden cards. Believe it or not sport games in general have a large market share.

And they can ignore mature games but the "kiddy" label hurts Nintendo. I've even seen 12 yr old kids say Nintendo is too kiddy for them. Sure this may sound stupid but there's no denying image plays a big factor in terms of marketing.

Several of my friends are gamers (we're in our 20's) and when talking about vids it's always about PS2 or Xbox. The Gamecube has the perception of being the console for little kids not adults.

I'm predicting the next Nintendo console will be in last place in terms of sales. I don't see them fixing the 3rd party and mature support anytime soon. I though they learned from the N64 mistakes and vowed to correct them, but it's been all talk and no action. They have let a first time console maker (PS1 and Xbox) beat them in the last 2 generation of consoles.

As long as Nintendo has Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and all the other first party stuff I think they'll be ok. Especially if they can keep their consoles selling at a cheaper price than their competators. Nintendo likley won't make a console ideal for a sports gamer, but they'll make a great second system to own for all their first party titles when you wanna take a break from sports games and just play something that's fun.

I'm not so sure of that anymore. From the respons from the net, many Nintendo diehards are getting frustrated and are actually thinking about taking a wait and see approach for their next console. Even Mario Sunshine sold a lot less than the Mario N64.

Personally speaking I won't be buying Nintendo's next console but I hope it does well because having 3 choices is better than 2, and the consumer should be the winner at the end.

I think their aim was to appeal to the younger kids, so that they would become nintendo fans and be faithful to them.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

Look at the controller! Thats a sign it's going for the younger audience. Sports aren't good on it, and it's alot smaller than other controllers. If Nintendo has a better control scheme and top notch hardware, they will bring in better third party support.

True, but is "ok" good enough any more? Now if this was 1998 or something and this was the N64, it wouldn't be a big deal. But it's now PS3, XBOX 2 and Nintendo in the mix. Sony being behind PS3 also makes TV's, DVD's...a whole load of electronics. Microsoft is of course behind XBOX 2 and what do they make? Computers, software, programs...oh and they're the largest company in the world. What does Nintendo do? Games. Look at the profits, or lack there of, for XBOX. I think they lost something like 1 billion dollars with XBOX, but that doesn't hurt them at all. If Nintendo lost 1 billion dollars on a console, they would be pulling a sega. You guys can quote me on this...unless there new console had good 3rd party support, they will never make a console again.
