    RPG Dilemma for a Newcomer

I'll preface this post with a little bit of background. I've always been a sports gamer, ever since I was a kid. The fact that I'm on this site says as much. However, my gaming tastes have evolved over time to where I can appreciate and enjoy games from other genres. A lot of AAA games have some sort of appeal to me. Some games I even discovered on OS (I'm looking at you, RDR)! I absolutely love GTA and have dabbled in shooters such as MW3, Battlefield, and Destiny. Although I have not tried Assassin's Creed, Unity does look very interesting to me, even with its flaws. Despite all that, there is still one major gaming frontier that I have not crossed, and that is the RPG genre.

So here is my dilemma: last week I was fortunate enough to try out Dragon Age Inquisition on my friend's PS4. Being my first run in an RPG, I can say that I had a bit of fun with it. He then proceeded to tell me that another highly anticipated RPG (The Witcher 3) would be coming out in a few weeks and I should wait for that instead of getting Dragon Age.

Now I'm guessing that a lot of you here have much more knowledge about these types of games than I do, so I am just wondering which game would be better for me to delve into as a newcomer to the RPG genre on the PS4? Would the story in either game be confusing for someone like me? I think the sweet spot for me would be a game with more up close action and combat rather than something like Diablo where you're controlling characters from afar. I know DA offers that but does The Witcher do so as well? I'd love to hear some of your opinions as I try to expand my gaming experiences!

Caveat, i haven't played Dragon's Age, but i am an RPG fan.
I'd think the Witcher is more up your ally if you really like up close action blended into a RPG. Dragon's age you end up controlling a party of several characersi believe and give commands rather than get in the thick of the fight constantly controlling one specific character.
Your best bet is to go watch some youtube videos of Dragon's Age combat then watch some of Witcher 3's combat to get a feel for what you like.

In terms of story, neither is a bad choice and I don't believe you really need to have played previous versions of either game to appreciate the story. The Witch comes out on the 19th so it's very soon. I'd wait the few extra days for that to come out and start reading some impressions.

Don't go with Dragon Age 3, it's very mmo-ish in regards to quests (a lot of filler 'collecting' type crap) plus combat isn't good from a tactical or action standpoint either.

edit: Just realized you said PS4 only. I guess just Bloodborne, Dark Souls 2 and Witcher 3 then.

Wasteland 2 will be out in the summer, but it's more a tactical RPG than action and uses a further away camera (which is necessary for this sub genre) It's more akin to games like X-Com, the old Fallouts from a combat perspective though, not Diablo.

If you are only on PS4 and not on a PC too just wait for Wasteland 2. DA3 is too MMO-ish and the story is quite complex there. Dark Souls 2 is not a good recommendation for newcomers. TW3 might be good but it relies heavily on action movement. Wasteland 2 is a phenomenal pure old school RPG title.
