It's hard for me to compare the two because they are quite different games. You get more gadgets to use in Black Flag, that's for sure. But Black Flag doesn't have the zip line, which is a great addition. Also, you're talking about one huge city compared to 3 cities plus all that open sea and smaller locations.

This game is better than Unity (which wasn't a complete disaster it has been made out to be after it was fixed, believe it or not). This game looks great and the missions are fun. Plus the Thames River area is a really unique thing that I don't think I've seen in a game (well, maybe you could say it's like Frogger, lol).

I'm hoping that in the near future we get a mix of city and wilderness areas again, though. I think they could do some great things with a map like III, Black Flag, and Rogue this gen.

Don't compare, just contrast. I think I might just end up getting Rogue then catching this on discount around thanksgiving

        Re: Assassins Creed Syndicate

Rogue is a great game that combines all the great things from III and IV into one game. You are absolutely stacked with weapons and tools, and the AI gets a new enemy type that is really interesting and adds a lot to the game. You will really like it if you liked IV.

As for Syndicate compared to them, a lot of stuff combat-wise got stripped for Unity. Everything last gen built up to Rogue. Syndicate adds back in a couple things that should have never been gone (mainly whistling from cover/hiding). Combat is a lot more polished and responsive than Unity, and I'd put it up there with the later last gen titles. Doing quick combos with your gun is seamless. And the new multi-kill animations are well done. The city is where the game really shines though. There are so many ways to get around with carriages and the zip line. And everything seems alive. You get people playing cricket on the lawns in the rich part of town, groups of singers at the train station, people making out in the alley, etc.

Dual protagonists also keeps the game fresh through the middle because you can be doing two different builds in the skill tree to fit the characters styles. But in the end you end up with mostly the same skills (each character has 3 unique skills).

So I guess basically, the series took a step back going into next gen. But Syndicate expands on all the good things from Unity, adds some stuff from last gen, and adds some really good new stuff.

Oh, and if you have the choice, get it on PS4 because the murder mysteries are well very done this time around.

man that sounds great I'll probably grab it on PC as well but it's not out yet sounds like both of those games have elements that I like to play but how about the side missions

I like Black Flag a lot more than I ever thought I would.

Syndicate, in the little I've played is really fun, and brings me back to what AC used to be like. Too bad so many games drop right now as I'll only get so much playing time, but I can tell I'll definitely beat this game unlike Unity.

So, to compare BF and Syndicate, like someone said, it's too early, but I can tell you both are more fun than what Unity had.

Side missions are well-balanced and where you really can get creative with bringing in your gang of friends to mess with the AI. Each borough is split up into smaller sections that are conquered by completing 1 of 4 types of missions. Then when you clear all those you have a gang war against that borough's leader for control.

Then there are other side missions that pop up, cargo carriage hijacks, fight clubs, train robberies, and carriage races to name a few. Each of those (along with the borough conquering stuff) increases your loyalty with one of your Associates, and each loyalty level you hit gives you weapons, gear, or rare crafting items.

Then there are missions that are related to your hideout - which is a train that moves around the city in real time!

Finally there are side stories with Charles Dickens, Karl Marx, and Charles Darwin, plus a couple others with several missions each there.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a nice variety and fun. Not just collecting map litter

Bought this last night. Like it so far. Reminds me of Brotherhood. Game seem to be struggling at times on the PS4. Not too far into the game, but I do hope the combat improves. I find it way too easy as a Level 1 character to steam roll through level 2 enemies. Steam rolled through so many so fast that I earned 5 skill points and didn't even know it. After using the 5 skill points I'm Level 2 now.

Is it a big deal to play through all of the games if I wanted to pick back up? I only played the first two or three Assassin's Creed games, and I'm not sure how much the stories all connect to one another.

Nope. Sure it is connected to Black Flag and Rogue, but you can manage without having played the others since there isn't a direct family connection.

                            Re: Assassins Creed Syndicate

I find the controls to be kind of clunky like Unity's controls were at times. Some times if the camera angle is at a certain way, the controls become backwards. Down becomes up, left become right. Highly annoying when you are trying to chase something or trying to escape. This usually occurs when climbing a building.

Don't like how horses purposely move over and block the side walk when you trying to run down the sidewalk. First time I thought it was just a random thing. But nope it happened over and over again. I was just looking at the tv thinking WTF ? Horse is on the street, he moves and turns his body 5 feet over to purposely block the side walk that he see me trying to run down.

There are other times when you are trying to jump off a staircase or small ledge, your player gets stuck on there in a crouching position for some dumb reason. The rope gun is very fun, makes you feel like Batman. The city is huge, the diversity of characters however is very tiny. I swear I see the same 4 or 5 character models through out the city just cloned. This stands out like a sore thumb if you are a player that explores.

All the crafting you have to do and finding crafting material, I really don't care for at all. Didn't care for it Black Flag and AC3 either. Just let me buy what I want to buy. Because of crafting you have to spend a good amount of time exploring the city looking for crafting materials and crafting schematics, WHILE conquering neighborhoods.

Seeing the same characters all the time make the neighborhood conquering sort of boring in a way. Since it is always a skinny guy, big brute and a short female with clones of them everywhere. Short female is usually on the roof somewhere holding a rifle.

One great thing I do like about Syndicate is that so far anyway, you spend the bulk of your time in the past. Unlike other games you do a mission in the past then brought back to the present day to some BS present day mission, then go back to the past.

Agree 100% in regards to the controls as I prefer the pre-Unity free running/parkour. Haven't really noticed the horses getting in my way at all and im on the ground running more than on the roof tops. The rope launcher is good and bad. Good in that it helps you get across long distances but bad when you're on the street and need to be close to the buildings in order for the L1 icon on top off the screen to appear so you can use it. I realize that it was only included into the game because the streets had to be made wider due to the horse carriages. It all fits but it's good and bad.

Agree 100% in regards to the variety off NPC's and enemies. There's very little variety compared to Unity but considering the few minor bugs that I have encountered compared to what I read was in Unity last year, I'll deal with it. It's annoying and disappointing but not game breaking or anything so it's a trade I'll definitely accept.

I LOVE all the crafting and upgrading. It makes doing all the side activities and getting all the collectibles worth it because there's an actual benefit to doing it. Once you upgrade certain character attributes, you gain even more materials. It's an RPG element that I love in games as long as it fits and makes sense which in Syndicate it does.

I haven't played since Wednesday due to work but im at 35% total sync and for the most part, im enjoying the game a lot more than Unity. Love all the side activities, murder mysteries, etc. There's a lot of stuff to do and the only thing that I wish had a limit is the "random encounters" like tackle (which has a huge delay/response problem) the thief, distract the bullies, etc. Other than that, im easily going for 100%. Alsolove that the game is purely a single player experience and has no co-op and/or multi-player because more times than not, that stuff seems forced in and doesn't belong.

Present day is still there but it's setup differently than in past games. Highly unlikely but I wish that they would eliminate the present day stuff. If the series ever "starts over and gets rebooted", then the present day stuff shouldn't even exist at all anymore. Of course, I don't see either of these two things happening.
