As of late:
1. Sports games. Duh.
2. Linear story with non-linear action (Batman, Dishonored, Shadow of Mordor)
3. Adventure games (Kentucky Route Zero, Telltale stuff, Jazzpunk)
4. Twitch (Velocibox, Geometry Wars)
5. Roguelikes (Spelunky, Rogue Legacy)
6. Short, minimalist character games (Brothers, Journey, Stanley Parable, Gone Home, To the Moon)
7. FPS (Battlefield and so on)
8. Strategy games (XCOM, Civ)
9. LOOT (Diablo, Torchlight)
10. RPGs (South Park, Witcher, DayZ)
11. Straight-up action (Bayonetta, Souls games, Shovel Knight)
12. Scary games (Outlast, PT)
....Yeah pretty much everything sans some racing games, some fighting games, and music-driven games.
