Finished last night.

Just an absolute brilliant game.

My thoughts are:

It was science. Kate was on to something big and she cracked the code with her squeeze Stephen who was also a smart science major in astrophysics I believe. I found star gazing books and charts everywhere. He was in a panic about how he was spreading it and it started with him when he was burned looking through the telescope. Kate came to grips with the fact that this was an otherworldly life force and she tried in vain to communicate with it. Seeing all the different observatories with computers laid out everywhere, star maps, and the butterfly drawings, it was evident to me it was science and trying to prove it was science. I did not buy into a religious event at all. I believe everyone spontaneously com-busted. Everywhere you find lit smokes, BBQ's still giving off smoke, things in place like the tennis courts where raquets were in the exact place a player would be standing. Balls just scattered everywhere. It was super creepy at times. After the nerve gas strike everyone died fast and then just went up in smoke from the life force that took over the town. I am going to play through it once again and see if I get a different perspective or some clues that I missed pop up.

Yeah, I don't find the religious explanation to be as encompassing as science.

People definitely combusted, it's evidenced by the fact that there are two instances where people who had disappeared left dust/ash everywhere explained in the campground.

However, I'm not sure everybody did. It's odd, some people were killed in other ways (specifically the guy Stephen killed with a hammer) who also seemed to dissolve and nobody went "holy **** that guy just went up like flash paper and turned to ash!", but yet there was no body.

There were also 2 separate moments (little foggy on the names) where the children were in their rooms and someone (father) went upstairs and he never returned. And another where I think it was Rachel who had an infant she was caring for where the parents never returned. (Diana & Shawn maybe?)

I don't believe they all combusted simultaneously.

For those who can't get enough of this incredible game or like to know how to get 100% of the story by playing it a 2nd time so you can get the Completionist Trophy, PS4Trophies lays it out for you in 25 minutes.

How to trigger all 100% of Everybody's Gone to the Rapture's story. This will earn you the Completionist trophy. You will need to find all radios, phones, computers and TV's. You do not need the Maps, Bird Books or Graffiti Chads. I missed one event but the game allows you to miss one. The one I missed is at the train station in Little Tipworth on the bridge above the trains. Getting that would have popped the trophy at tower 5 in the observatory.

I'm going to play this mostly because I don't like that some guys I've enjoyed talking television with are talking about this story.
