1) Is it necessary? As Kevin already answered, no. Its pretty much a re imagining of the original game featuring key elements of the series as whole.

    2) Should you play the others? YES, yes you should.

Think I'm gonna pick this game up today. I have played a few from the PS3 gen so I'm familiar with the game/characters. Didn't have a PS2 so I missed out on games from this series on that console.

I need something bright, fun and not so serious to play when my son is around. Plus, R+C is one of the few games my wife will actually watch or play.

I had never played one before and absolutely loved this game.

When the annual "favorite games of the year" threads pop up in December this will on my list for sure. Loved this game. Wish we could get more like it. I really don't consider this a re-make or a remaster or anything like that, it felt super fresh to me. Maybe that is just me though

Started playing this a couple weeks ago. I truly miss these gaming experiences. Reminds me of the old PS, PS2 gaming days. They don't make games like this anymore.

Gonna pick this up from GameStop sometime this week. Would use my GCU perks but GameStop offers more for a DOOM trade-in than Best Buy does!

Apologies for bumping this three year old topic but holy crap, im nearing the end of this game and it's been a great adventure.

Visually, the game looks spectacular on PS4 Pro with HDR. Audio wise, it's real good. Music and sound is good and the voice acting is solid. Story and characters is good for what the game. Every character has been solid and im enjoying the story throughout.

Gameplay is excellent. Smooth, fluid, responsive and great combat. Minor puzzles. Some little space combat. Melee/shooting feels good. Shame I passed on this game 4 years ago but at the same time, im happy that I did since it received a PS4 Pro 4K/HDR update.

I'm expecting Ratchet & Clank 2 to be a PlayStation 5 launch title and if it does end up being true, I will not make the same mistake twice as it will be day one purchase!!!

I think this game is one of the games PlayStation is giving away for free for their Play at Home promo, or whatever it’s called. I believe it’s also part of the PS+ collection if you have a PS5.

Insomniac just released a 60fps patch for this game, so I finally started it last night. It looks and runs really well at 60fps, and it’s also just a really fun game to play. The little bits of humor also have me cracking up while playing. I’m glad I tried this because now I’m definitely going to buy A Rift Apart.

They definitely could have offered a 1080p 60 FPS optimizer for PS4 Pro, yet I don't know why they decided against it. I think Insomniac is finally going back to their ways of recognizing the 60 FPS option is a necessity for their games again, which is great!

                          Re: Ratchet & Clank

I've never been a PC gamer, have played on consoles dating back to when I was a kid, when I played on SNES and Sega Genesis, and then PS1 and N64, PS2 and Xbox, PS3 and Xbox 360, PS4, and now PS5 and Series X. So along the way, I've experienced some games running at 60fps, I think mostly sports titles.

But for most games 30fps has always been the standard on console gaming, correct? The jump to 60fps for fast-moving games like this one, God of War, etc is just insane.

Horizon Zero Dawn is one of my favorite games ever. I booted it up on my PS5 the other day, and the 30fps is just jarring after playing so many games at 60fps recently. It hurts my eyes lol.

60fps, and even experiencing some games at 120fps, is just pure gaming bliss.

I built a PC in July and it was clearly noticable right off the bat to me. Jumping back to PS4 was jarring and took some getting reacquainted with. I can't jump back and forth between the two. It has to be dedication to one or the other depending on what I want to play. I still haven't finished Ghost of Tsushima partly due to that reason.

                              Re: Ratchet & Clank

Save Ghost for when/if you plan on getting a PS5. I bought it before I had a PS5 but saved it until I got one, and it was so worth it. Runs/looks amazing on PS5. I did the same with God of War, never played it on PS4 and am now playing it on PS5, and it's just amazing running at 60fps.

I did platinum Days Gone on PS4 Pro and absolutely loved it. Just for the heck of it, I downloaded it on my PS5 after they patched in 60fps. I played it for like 2 minutes and as much as I loved it on PS4, I instantly regretted ever playing it lol I wish I would have waited to experience it at 60fps. Maybe one day I'll do another play through.

I'm about 25 hours into Death Stranding, and was loving it. But I put it down when a PS5/60fps version started to hit the rumor mill. I'd kick myself if I spent 60+ hours with it and then a 60fps version drops lol.

So yea, I'm at the point where games like Death Stranding which I haven't come close to finishing, I really want to do another Horizon play through before Forbidden West comes out, and even though I spent 60+ hours getting the platinum on TLoU Part 2 I'd love to play through it for a third time...but I just don't want to go back to 30fps lol.
