    Re: Transformers Devestation

    It's actually $50.

Nobody is going to be willing to provide that kind of budget for a Transformers video game, especially not Activision. Platinum Games seems to have done a decent job considering what they had to work with.

The biggest criticisms are surely to be length and repetition, which is par for the course with most character action/pure action games and this is clearly the type of game Transformers Devestation is. With these types of games though, it's all about your enjoyment of the mechanics, and replay value is inherently tied to those mechanics, multiple playthroughs on harder difficulties, getting better grades in combat, completing challenges, working towards unlocks, ect.

        Is it co-op?
I might get this for my Transformer crazed son if we can play together.

Definitely satisfies this G1 fanboys desire to play those original G1 cartoon characters.

            Re: Transformers Devestation

Chapter 7 in this game is sooo good. Just an awesome way to finish out the game.

I definitely say this is a must play for anyone who is a fan of G1 Transformers and enjoys character action games. If you don't have any nostalgia for Transformers though, you can probably skip this or wait until its on sale. It's fairly short, and although while it is replayable, its not as deep as Bayonetta or Metal Gear Rising. The budget shows with generic and reused levels, and what feels like a third of the enemy types that are in Bayonetta.

The combat is still top notch though. The characters aside from Grimlock don't fight too differently aside from different ultimate attacks, and the different equipable weapons don't change combat that much, unless you use one of the slower attacking hammers comapred to gloves or swords. I didn't really delve that deeply into fusing and equiping new weapons other than upgrading the main weapon for each character like Prime's Axe or Bumblebee's gloves. That might be something required for higher difficulties though.

I'll probably run through it again on a higher difficulty and try out some challenge mode missions next.

              Re: Transformers Devestation

Love the game. I got excited when I saw MotorMaster. I thought, Menosar? No way. Hadn't seen that advertised...

My only complaints are pretty small and FAR out weighed by the G1 cartoon / gameplay goodness.

              • Whoever did the voice over editing added way too much filtering to Prime and Megatron's voice. They both sound like they're talking from inside a trashcan and it's unfortunate as the VO work is superb.
              • Characters can double jump, but there's not rocket fire on the double jump part. Fire coming from their feet or the back would have been a nice immersion feature, and stayed accurate with the G1 cartoon (sometimes they just 'flew' in G1, and other times they had rocket fire coming from various parts).
              • Lack of information on status attributed. Hard to know 'what' you wanted to upgrade. A little more info there would have gone a lone ways in preparation / having a goal to work towards.
              • So many G1 characters represented, both on Autobot / Decepticon side, and you get to fight so many different types of Decepticons. Total awesomeness.
              • Megatron transformers into a tank. Yeah. A Tank. Not a Gun. A Tank. *sigh*
              • Would have LOVED to have seen team based combo attacks when fighting along side the Autobot allies.
              • Bumblebee always appears to be posing for Playboy when he's not moving. It's kind of creepy after awhile.

              On the plus side:
              • G1 ART and VO work takes me back to the 80s. Love, love, love it overall.
              • Gameplay is very fun. It's fast, yet slow at times (I dodge WAY too quickly most of the time), and there's points for landing well timed combos.
              • The VO artist who played Starscream did an amazing job in the game. The original VO actor for Starscream passed away in the 90s. Heard several incarnations of Starscream in games, and other cartoons, and this is by far one of the best.
              • Didn't like the controls at the start, especially the transforming (holding R1 for a long period to transformer, and R1 quickly dodges). However, once I got used to it, I have to say that they packed a LOT of gameplay into a limited button set. Was loving it by Chapter 3.
              • More than Devestator on the Gestalt front! w00t!

This game is a MUST PLAY for any G1 Cartoon fan!

PSN+ free game for October. Never pulled the trigger when this game released, but glad I get to try it as the free game this month.
